The instal fees are higher for FIOS because it's actually a lot of work to get it installed (probably why the 1 year lock in is there too).

The rates are much the same, but the quality of service is MUCH better - faster internet, better PQ (especially if you move to HD) and it's not Comcast.

You can also look into a vonage type solution for your phone needs and at least cancel that. Even if you aren't saving any money, you're not spending it with Comcast, right?

if only there was a law that had enabled you to switch between cable or sat without having to ditch equipment. If they had passed such a law in say 1996 that would have given the companies plenty of time to work out a hole digital bidirectional interface so suctomers did not have to stand before one company with no real threat on their side to use the market place to get the real value of a service. If only........................

That's crazy talk! Such a ridiculous scheme would NEVER work!
