Was wondering if its ok to set up both a comcast box and cable cards or if thats the kiss of death. I've set up my series 3 that way do to the problems with the cable cards receiving premium channels. Now the tivo box keeps shutting down with all the displays on the front lit up but nothing coming thru to the tv. I power cycle the tivo and that works for maybe an hour then shuts down again. is the problem running both boxes? Love my tivo but also like on demand, am I asking for too much?

Need a little clarification:

When you say you are using both S3 and cable box I assume you are using them on different inputs, i.e. you split the coax, running one link to the cable box and one to the S3 (with cablecards), and then the cable box to the TV (what cables)? If so, that should work without problems.

You say "problems with cablecards receiving premium channels". There should not be any problem with this. The Tivo will not receive VOD, but it should receive all the Premium channels that you subscribe to.

You say "Tivo shutting down". What do you mean by this? What do you see when you tune to a channel on Tivo? Grey screen? Green screen? Is this on all channels?

First shows no screen i guess you could say a grey screen, now its stuck on powering up I've had comcast out about 10 times to fix the cable card problems finally gave up hence the cable box just moved to sq hill no time 4 another service call until the end of the month, thought I'd try here 1st . Steeler games are coming!

I've gone thru another set-up and it seems that the 1st cable card is not receiving any stations. After doing a power cycle the Tivo is fine for a hour or so, then will go into the powering up stage, followed by the blank tv screen with all the figures on the front screen of the Tivo lit up, including the 2 that show you're recording, but doesn't list anything as being recorded. Is this possibly a cable card problem? I'm off on monday & will have the time to talk to comcast at that time, not today. Thanks for all your help!

One has nothing to do with the other.

You can have a Series 3 and a Comcast box on the same account with no problems. If you are having problems, it isn't related to having both.

Just curious, why? I am using a TiVOHD with a Comcast HD tuner so that I keep access to ondemand, including HD ondemand, but the added $5 cost for the comcast dvr (in my area) didn't seem warranted...

Only just switched, not had to chance to return the dvr for a regular hd box

So this morning plugged the Tivo back in, started back up, ran good for about an hour and a half, then switched to powering up mode, which it will stay in until I unplug the machine again. Is this a disk issue? If so I'll probably just buy one from here, I know how to put in a new one, but my skills further than that are limited at best.

Also a quick side note the tech's superviser who showed up after putting in the c.c.s said that the newest comcast hdbox which is what i have has a cable card in the box,which was the first i had heard of that.Stated that cable cards are not going away, and you'll see more, rather than less.

All Comcast boxes (and most other major providers) have used these new cc boxes since July 1. However, the cards are placed in the boxes, initialized, paired and screwed in place before the installer ever sees them. To him, the are just like the old boxes, needing only the authorization hit in order to function. It is not going to help his cc learing experience one iota.

4 tuner HD recording, of course! (I have the same setup) My wife actually plots out the fall schedule on a spreadsheet, and we do have quadruple conflicts from time to time. Since most on-demand stuff from the networks still isn't HD (we only get CSI and (formerly) Jericho), if we want them all in HD, we need more than two tuners.

Not wanting to invest in a second TivoHD at this point.

I'm sorry, but this is getting me no where, the Tivo has gone back to powering up mode, soon I'll have to power cycle again, just to be able to record a program my roomate loves. Seems like no one knows whether this is a disk problem or not, time to call tivo and pray it's something simple, when done I'll post the info I'm given, should this happen to someone else. Called Tivo, I'm to return the box via ups, they're sending the shipping form, and as soon as they receive mine they're sending out a new box. I have a series 2 which I'm not using, and they said no fees would be added to my account while this is going on. Bought the Series 3 in december so over all I'm happy that the problem will be solved shortly, at no cost to me.
