What DVR alternative to Tivo has the closest trick play responsiveness and functionality to Tivo?

What device do you use to run the channels dvr server software on?

It doesn't offer slow-mo (yet) but it does offer customization of the "seek back" and "seek forward" commands. You can set them to 3, 7, 10, 15 or 30 seconds. And you can have different presets for these commands, for "sports" content vs. "movies" content.

When you seek, can you see the content on the screen moving by quickly?

Ok, yes, I think that's what Tivo does. Can you see the content when you fast forward or rewind?
