chmod Issue

1136 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  falc122727
I have been searching the forum and I have not had any luck finding a solution. Please forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, but...

I am trying to install Steve Jenkins' hack to convert my series 1 Tivo (Sony SVR-2000) to internet capability (fried modem). I was having success until this step:

Before your TiVo can run your rc.sysinit.author file, however, you need to change the permissions of the file so that it is executable. Do this by typing:

chmod 755 rc.sysinit.author [ENTER]

After I enter the above command I get the following message:

chmod: not found

Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The simplest answer is to make sure you have properly saved the new rc.sysinit.author file by pressing CTRL K and then X.
Thank you for the response. I did confirm the CTL+k and x and I did get confirmation that the entry was saved. Unfortunately I still get the same message "chmod: not found".

I am just not sure what else I can try.
Whether the file is saved or not, that error means you're missing a chmod binary. Try a different boot cd, like the one from dvrupgrade.com.

I bet you used the Boot Floppy instead of the CD? Jenkins boot floppy does not contain chmod. The workaround is to modify your rc.sysinit to get bash. You can then create the rc.sysinit.author file at the bash prompt and use your Tivo's chmod to set set the attributes.
