Channels just disappeared

Channel 11 didn't record last night.

I checked the other channels. Channel 12 didn't record either.

Channels 2 through 9 and Channel 13 were fine. There is no Channel 10.

Despite what I posted here, when I called Spectrum I was told I didn't have a bunch of new channels. And now I'm paying even more for what I do have.

Now I know people will say there are other ways to record other than manually. But that's how I do it.

But at some point I was trying to get to 12 and it skipped right over 11 and 12 and went to 13. It did the same thing when I used Channel Up when testing my channels.

I can't get anyone to come to my house until Tuesday because they need to send someone who knows cable cards and such.

The obvious question is whether Channels 11 & 12 are in your Channels Settings-->>Channels List and if so are they shown as enabled (checkmark displayed) and they appear in the guide.

What do you mean by "trying to get"? Punching in the numbers, selecting via the guide, what? Even if a channel is non-existent you should still be able to force the tuner by punching in the numbers without it automatically going to 13. If the channel is in the channel list and in the guide you should be able to select it and if it's not authorized you'd get a black screen and an authorization error message.

Checked that.

Up arrows for the channel number for manual recording.

Both channels are authorized. The person I was on the phone with claimed someone was trying to solve the problem.

Someone is coming to my house Tuesday. It might have been sooner but they have to send someone who knows about cable cards.

IOW, channels 11 & 12 are either not present or not enabled in your channels list. This has nothing to do with manual recording.

Edited to add: If you punch in the numbers for either one of those two channels you'll either get a channel not available notice and as cwoody says it's a TiVo channel lineup issue, or if it does tune in you simply need to enable it in your channel settings setup.

If the channels aren’t available to record via the manual recording screen there are two options:

- the channels are not selected in Channels You Receive in Settings. Go look and if they are not checked, check them.

- if the channels aren’t even listed in Channels You Receive then they’ve been incorrectly removed from your lineup by TiVo. You’ll need to fill out a Lineup Change Request form on TiVo’s website. Alternatively, you can try to select a different lineup for your zip code in Guided Setup that have the channels. You can preview all the available lineups on online.tivo.com

Either way, it has nothing to do with your cable provider and having them out is pointless and they’ll probably just end up blaming your cable card or something else equally incorrect

The only reason you’d need the cable company is if you cannot tune to the channel (enter the channel number manually during live tv) and you should be able to, based on your current subscription.

When I entered the channels manually and tested them I got zero signal strength. All the other channels got a high number.

Are the two channels showing up in Channel You Receive in Settings? And if so, are they checked?

The list of channels on the Manual Recording screen has no way to know if you actually have a signal on the channel so the fact that the channels aren’t showing up there AND you say you cannot tune the channels indicate there would be two independent problems which doesn’t seem likely.

Don't know what specifically he did, but the channels are back.

I unplugged the tuning adapter a long time ago and he plugged it back in but he had to call somebody. He also had to take the cable card out and read information to the man on the other end. I had to show him the various cable card screens.

He said almost no one uses cable cards. I said I had to if I wanted to record shows. He said there were other companies that made recording devices that didn't need them.

Also, the man on the phone said there should be a splitter with one end going to the tuning adapter and one end going to the TiVo. But the way mine was installed one cable goes to one location on the tuning adapter and another goes from another location into the TiVo. And there is a USB.

Charter has been requiring Tuning Resolvers (Tuning Adapter is the consumer branding for the TR specification) for more and more of their channels over time. Since you are supposed to use the TR, they feel free to migrate channels to SDV at any time, and without the TR, those channels become unavailable to you.

While most TR's support passthrough, there are some TR's (depending on the manufacturer) whose internal splitters (and amps) are known to be problematic some of the time, so somethings splitting before the TR is an advantage. When your location moves to high-split HSI, and presuming they offer a HSC converter to replace the TR, you will need to have it inline as it creates the signals that your TiVo CableCARD requires.
