I have a Motorola DCT 2224 with a series 2 tivo. I am missing over 75% of the programs I am trying to record. It constantly changes to the wrong channel. I am using the code posted in the Cable/Satellite Box Compatibility & Codes List.
I have also used the automatic setup to try and correct the problem. One thing that I noticed is that when I run through the setup and it says "watch the screen to see what happens", that the channel changes but no video is showing up. I don't know if this is a setup issue or not. I would assume that I should be seeing video for the channel that it changed to. Please let me know if you can help. My cable provider is charter communications.

By any chance does the channel it is supposed to change to have a "6" in it? During guided setup, did you select what input the TiVo should use?

Have you tried the "Serial" cable with your DCT 2000??? that's if it is "Enabled" by your cable operator.

It happens with any nuber. I have noticed that if the tivo tries to switch to channel 32 the number 03 will show on the screen and the TV will turn to channel 3. It seems like most times it is missing the last number.

No I have not. I am not sure if I have a serial cable. Does cable have an end that looks like an old serial connector for a mouse on the older style computers? I am currently using an IR for channel changing.

also in response to the question about identifying input I will have to check that. I remember when I set it up, over a year ago that I had the same problem with video not showing during setup. I checked the input and think I had it set correct, although I didn't have video until setup was complete. I may have been doing something incorrect without knowing I did.

I take it that a slower/different code doesn't help?

Are your IR blasters plugged in correctly? (IIRC, you can plug the cable into the serial port slot, but of course that won't work.) Are the blasters aimed and set up correctly facing the IR window on your cable box? Shine a flashlight at the window on the cable box and make sure you've properly located where the IR emitter is. 75% is an incredibly high failure rate, and that is not at all normal if things are set up properly, so I tend to think it's some sort of problem of this kind -- you might even try a different IR cable in case the one you have is bad.

After you've ruled out those problems, try building a "fort" to enclose your IR blasters w/ your cable box's IR emitter. You want to screen out any other IR signals that could be confusing things. I use a box that my checks came in, covered on the inside with tin foil, then cut to fit and taped to my cable box. It does help a lot with channel-change reliability, although my initial failure rate was nowhere near what you've described.

ETA: Oh, and are you sure you've got the "do you need to press enter to effect a channel change" setting right?

I have the setting on enter button set to no because I have the channel changing set as 3 digit so that should be correct.

Ok I changed to the serial cable which appears to be the way I should have set it up to start with. Hopefully this will correct my problem. Had to do a little digging in storage to fing the cable. Thanks for the help.
