Have a Roamio on TE3. If I do a CDE will the Roamio still be on TE3? If I put in a new drive and let the Roamio format it will it format it to TE3 since the last drive in there was TE3 or would it format to TE4 since a blank drive? Kind of a flash drive issue I think, hoping since the current drive is on TE3 the flash drive is also on TE3 if that makes sense. I value all feedback but of course prefer someone who has actually done either/or, preferably the new HD. I do want to avoid TE4 even temporarily though I could probably roll it back. I'd rather make sure the Tivo stays on TE3 with either the CDE or better yet the fresh drive (actual fresh drive, no copy/clone/backup/restore).

Hmm, if doing the new drive maybe let it format without being connected to the internet? I doubt it could switch to TE4 if not connected, would have to stick with what is currently on the flash drive? Though would have to be connected for guided setup.

It will stay on TE3. I have, within the last two months, bricked my 1TB and 3TB Roamio drives with a CPI&TDL. On the 1TB I put the drive in a USB cradle and performed a full NTFS format. On the 3TB I ran the KS code 76543210 and that took me to a Guided Setup.

Last year I had the opposite problem. I rolled a TE4 Roamio back to TE3. It was missing the app to upgrade back to TE4. I ended up buying the VOX remote and dongle so I could hit the voice button for the upgrade.

Thanks. I find it very scary that running things like CPI&TDL, standard Tivo function, can brick drives (well can get running again but I assume you lost everything, for sure with the format, does KS 76543210 also clear everything?). And I guess you are not the only one, read others had similar problems with CPI&TDL. Almost afraid to try anything, Tivo type resets or KS commands, who knows what will happen, not working is one thing, screwing up the drives another.................

Sadly, that KS code wipes everything, like changing hard drives. And it doesn't work on a Premiere. I don't know if it works on a Bolt either. TiVo is changing the guide format (slowly) and it may be a factor. I have a new term: EOD. That's the guides End Of Data.

Yeah, I had a bunch of funky guide data too, even different between different model Tivos on same account (TE3). I think that is why people were trying the CPI&TDL with various results, some worked I guess, some not, some bricked drive like you, endless loop or something else?

I will definitely be rushing in to buy a cable edge with lifetime, only $1000 with tax. TE4 only, 2.5" drive and dependent on a cable card for DVR function. Not................................. Heck not even sure I'd do a $99 transfer from an S2 or S3, still would be over $500 with tax plus the value of the device being deactivated, probably $550-650 "cost" or more depending on what device transferring from.
