Hoping this is the right place to ask. I am having issues with trying to save files to my Win10 PC from my TiVO Bolt. The Bolt is running 20.7.4d.RC15. I have kmttg 2.4p, and win32 tools 2.1n. Java installed is Java 8 update 301 (32 and 64 bit). Verified the correct MAK is configured.

I have some recording that seem to download fine (like a CNN program or others). But I have more than a few that I've tried downloading as either TS or non-TS, with decrypt enabled. The downloads as PS are too small and obviously wrong. The ones as TS download with the size I expect, but trying to open them in say VideoRedo throws an error that there is not video stream. Indeed, trying to play back the TS file shows a black screen but I hear the audio stream.

Can anyone suggest anything I can check or try to get more idea why this isn't working? Went as far as a Bolt reboot, but that made no difference either. Thanks in advance.

Assuming these recordings were from h.264/MPEG4 channels, then they cannot be decrypted by TivoDecode (default method), and would need TivoLibre enabled.

Confirmed. This is the result from a MPEG4 recording.

Is TiVoToGo broken for all MPEG-4 streams? I thought only Series 2 and Series 3 suffered from that problem.

Did TiVo know about that issue but not care to fix it?

Sorry, but should have mentioned I do have tivolibre installed and enabled. And decrypt is checked.
It's funny that I also downloaded a program from BRAVO marked as 720p, looks ok. This is CBS, shows as 720p as well.

You have to download as TS download method and PS does not work.

You should also see how playable it is on the Tivo.

This is a common problem. If the PS (Program Stream Protocol) download is too small, it's (i.e. the downloading software: kmttg, PyTiVo O.G., PyTiVo Desktop, etc...) only downloading the audio and you must use TS (Transport Stream Protocol) since your SOURCE must be H.264 (Go to Tuner Diagnostics on your TiVo Unit when tuned to the channel in question and you'll see) and PS won't download H.264. I talked about this problem a GREAT DEAL back in 2017 when @Dan203 was debating whether or not to add TS Sync Error Detection to PyTiVo Desktop (the majority here on TCF voted NO; I voted YES and SCREAMED the benefit of it wherever I could... :rolleyes: Luckily, logic and common sense prevailed and @Dan203 included it - Thanks! :thumbsup: )

Load up the latest version of PyTiVo Desktop. In Settings / Downloads:
  1. Move the 'Download Speed' pointer 2 CLICKs towards Slow
  2. Transport Stream Error Detection - Keep file with the least number of errors
  3. Maximum number of retries - I'm using 7 right now
  4. Slow download speed on each subsequent retry - CHECKED
Post back here ASAP with the number of TS Sync Errors PyTiVo Desktop is finding. Do just *ONE* show for now.

If you post back in this thread tonight before I go to bed, I'll try to help you decipher what you see. If not, you can SEARCH the TCF Archives for "TS Sync Error" and my UserID going back to 2017 and you'll find *PLENTY* of posts. Back then, before @Dan203 added the "Automatic Slow Down" code, we users had to either use "Managed Switches w/QoS Rate Limiting" or software that "Rate Limited" the data coming into your PC from your TiVo Unit.

This is a FAVORITE topic of mine - other TCF Users, not so much. Most don't even mention it when newbies report the problem. o_O

TiVo Units cannot send H.264 video codec material under Program Stream Protocol. They CAN send it under Transport Stream Protocol but that then incurs the possibility of introducing "TS Sync Errors" to the stream - discussed a GREAT DEAL back in 2017 by me - SEARCH the TCF Archives if you're interested.
IME, the *MAJORITY* of 10,000+ Daily Posters here on TCF TOTALLY *IGNORE* this problem when replying... :( :rolleyes: :confused:
