Direct TV has launched a number of new HD channels this month and will have 100 channels by year end. I was told I had to swith out my HD receiver and get a new dish (for $99). I placed the order.

When installing at my house, the technician called me at work and said there is no way to hook up Tivo to the new receiver. I told him to cancel the order. I also called to register a complaint and was basically told "too bad, we want you to use our HD DVR to record."

Any suggestions?

Wait a second.

I don't see how or why you wouldn't be3 able to use your TiVo with the new receiver.

The tech may have just been feeding you a line.

If the receiver uses an Infra Red remote, your TiVo should be able to produce the IR flashes to control it (if your TiVo is a subscribed one one that gets updates).

The receiver should also have outputs that can be fed into your TiVo.

This means the two SHOULD be able to work together.

Without telling us WHY he felt the TiVo couldn't work with the DirecTV receiver, you're tying our hands, but I'd say they were....um...less than honest with you.

Give us more details, or if they didn't give you any, buttonhole someone at DirecTV and insist they explain to you what the problem is, then come back here and tell us what they said.
