Hi,
I am new here so I figured I would ask for some help. Let me preface my problem with mentioning I experienced a lightning strike, and some of my electronics got toasted. Not sure if my Tivo was a casualty. Green on light is illuminated, and the red light comes when recordings are scheduled. I don't know if they are recording, but the unit is acting like its working. I just can't get it to sync to the new TV.

I have a new TCL Roku TV and I am having difficulty getting it to recognize my Tivo. I have replaced all coax & hdmi cables. I am connecting via Spectrum cable. I also have a new cable card, and a new tuning adapter.

I only have the TCL TV (the one mentioned above) to run tests on.
  1. Is there a way to test the Tivo unit for function?
  2. Is there a method to reboot the unit?
Any suggestions for how to get the connection working would be much appreciated, and/or issues I might be over looking.

which models of roamio and tcl tv do you have? that would help with troubleshooting steps.

if you sign up for an online account, you can at least schedule and view your recordings and to do list, and even watch them at home with the mobile tivo app.

I am pretty sure you need to switch inputs on the remote, to the HDMI connected to the Roamio.

Coax, cable system, cable card and tuning adapter don't matter.

Plug the TiVo in. Connect via HDMI. Cycle thru inputs on the tv remote until you get the right one.

If even the TiVo menus don't appear then either the TiVo or hdmi cable or tv's hdmi input (try another) is shot.

Thanks for your reply. I was able to log in and see my recordings, will try the mobile app as well.

Thank you for your reply and suggestions.

I have followed the steps you outlined.

Plugged Tivo in
Connected with multiple HDMI cables
Selected all HDMI inputs on the TV
Each time I get "No Signal", and no Tivo menu is displayed.

Additional info I forgot to include in my original post:
I had to swap out my router, and my wifi name as well as pass-code has changed.
Would this cause the TV to not recognize the Tivo?

Is there a way to get into the Tivo menu to update the wifi info if I can't get the Tivo screen to display?

I know I probably clutching a straws here, but looking for any way to salvage the Tivo.
Or can I transfer the data on the hard drive to another source?

Thanks in advance to all who offer ideas.

it sounds as if the hdmi port on the tivo was fried by the lightening, however; since you can still view your recordings online, i would suggest trying a component to hdmi adapter (and cables to connect it to the roamio) to see if you can get an hd picture, if you're willing to order. keep in mind, while it's not expensive, it may not work, so be sure about the return policy:

Thank you for the links, that sounds like and inexpensive method to by-pass the HDMI port. After digging further in Tivo Online, it appears my account now is not able to connect to my Tivo saying I have a network issue.

"Check Your DVR Network Connection
There is a problem communicating with your DVR. Please make sure your DVR is connected to your home network, then try again."

So when it rains it pours.

let's hope it's the result of the new router configuration, and not a damaged ethernet port or wifi on the roamio - how is tivo connected to the router?

Well it was wireless, but I had to unplug the Ethernet cable because the Tivo & router are on separate sides of the room. Don't want anyone to trip over it at night. Will reattach it tomorrow and see if error message resolves.

Well after re-reading my last reply it sounded confusing, I apologize.

Originally it was wireless, before the lightning issues.

With the new router, the old configuration might be blocking access. I connected an Ethernet cable to see if that corrected the issue, it did not. After I unplugged the Ethernet cable I got the connectivity error message.

So currently, the Tivo is plugged in, HDMI to the tv input and no Ethernet cable.

In the morning I'm going to see if I can gain any access with the Tivo connected to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Then order those cables you suggested to by-pass the HDMI port of the Tivo.

Just going to try and eliminate one potential issue at a time, and see if the box is salvageable.

Your network connection - WiFi or Ethernet - would have ZERO effect on the ability of the tv to receive the picture from the TiVo.

Go ahead with the networking to see if your TiVo is actually functioning but don’t expect it to fix your tv connectivity.

Have you eliminated the possibility that the hdmi input on the tv is what got fried?

Have you tried plugging in another device to that hdmi port?

Have you tried plugging the TiVo into another hdmi port on the tv?

The so called Network issue is because it has not recently connected to Tivo Service.

I have a separate DVR from the cable company that connects to all HDMI ports on the TV so I ruled out the TV inputs as an issue.

Also have tried the Tivo into all ports on the TV and get a "No Signal" in each port.

I haven't used their repair service. But please look into TiVo Repair Service for High Definition TiVos
It's $49.99 plus cost of parts. $49.99 still applies even if it cannot be fixed.

According to Miscellaneous Services from WeaKnees.com they cannot repair HDMI ports on Roamios.

Well, still worth a look just in case. Best to contact Weaknees. (Carefully read everything.)

Also, if you don't mind me asking, have you tried doing audio out to some speakers using the red and white audio out ports or breakout cables if you have the base model? See if it is just a video problem.

Thank you for the links to Weakness for possible repair, I will look into that as one of my options.

I am currently waiting on the cables NorthAlabama suggested above, they should be here tomorrow to by pass the HDMI port on the Tivo.

I have not tested the audio out as of yet, (thanks for the suggestion) but I will. I just have to find the necessary wiring to perform the check.

If you buy another TiVo, you could try transferring the data using the website online... assuming the only issue are the AV ports. I don't know the complexities of using a non-Roamio TiVo or something other than Encore/Gen3. Others would have to help advise regarding that. But for me, I've done Roamio to Roamio transfers of recordings before using the website.

Thank you. I will explore the transfer options/ability should all other solutions fail.
