I just called to cancel the Humax because I received the DT and I'm hoping to like it <g>.

The very nice CSR tried to persuade me to continue service for another month because they have already charged my account for the month ahead. I pointed out that that would push me beyond the 30-day free cancellation.
After some further discussion, e.g., didn't I want to connect the two Tivos (?) I again pointed out that I wanted to disconnect within the cancellation period. Eventually, she was all right with that.
(paraphrasing):

Good. Then you can just transfer the extra billing to my new TiVo.
I'm sorry, that won't be possible. We cannot transfer fees from one TiVo to another.
You mean, you bill in advance, and TiVo just gets my money?
Well, I think I need to charge you a $200 cancellation fee anyway.
No, I activated service on July 5. I have 30 days to cancel. Today is August 5 and within the 30-days. I'm calling today to cancel within the contracted time period.
Can you hold on? (LOUD MUSIC)
Okay
CSR returns: Okay, I have cancelled service on the Humax.
Thanks. Bye.

Darn. I agreed so easily and didn't pin her down again on the refund of the early charge for the Humax.

NB: my 3 year service contract began on the date I placed the order, not the date of installation and beginning service.

If 7/5 was your first day of service (according to tivo anyway), today would be the 32nd day. Tivo would have been well within their rights to charge you the $200 early cancellation fee so you should consider yourself lucky to get off with only the extra months charge if they don't refund.

Wow, it's too bad you hadn't put Lifetime service on that DRT800 when you bought it. You could be selling it for $400+ on eBay right now. :(

Oh, just noticed the DRT. Mine is a simple T800 -- no DVD.

Oh, I was looking at JustAllie's post. I figured she had some inside info....
Well, my only insider info was that when he originally posted, he said it was a DRT800. :p :D A T800 wasn't eligible for the lifetime subscription once the option of getting that was cancelled on nearly all other TiVo units. The Humax DVD models were the only exceptions, as far as I know.
