Hi,

I've got 2 S-Card Cable cards from Comcast (Motorola). I also have an OTA feed that I'm hesitant to add to my TivoHD for fear that it will mess up the setup somehow with the cable cards at the same time.

From what I know, the HD is a 2 tuner machine. Is it possible to add the 3rd source (OTA) in addition to the CC's and still have everything work properly?

Thanks for your help.

Yep! You can do cable and OTA, however, as you've noted, it's a two tuner machine, which means only two tuners can be active at once (you could be recording 1 OTA Channel, 1 Cable or 2 OTA, or 2 Cable at any one time)

So it simply adds a 3rd choice for the 2 tuners to tune to, and this causes no issues as far as recording, or cable card function?

I'm usually very up on technical issues, and I think I'm over complicating this in my head as a possible problem!

Thanks for the reply.

I do exactly what you are asking; two cablecards and an OTA antenna. The TiVo seamlessly melds all the channel info into the guide data, and you can record whatever, whenever. Obviously only two recordings at a time, but the TiVo doesn't care whether they are two cable, two OTA, or one of each.

You do need to rerun guided setup, which is not as painful as it sounds. Tell it you now also have an OTA, and that's how it knows to show that data in addition to your cable data.

Have fun!

I have two cable cards and ota. I think im recording about 50% with ota. Since 9.1 came out ota seems to be better.

One of the best ota sub channels shutdown oct. 1:( I cant believe The Tube is gone:(

The only issue with multiple (analog/digital/OTA) inputs is that you may not get the channel you want for your Tivo suggestions, which can be annoying if you'd prefer an uncompressed OTA HD stream and the show ends up in analog SD.

I've never actually figured out the logic that Tivo uses to decide which channel to record for suggestions - versus the easier method of just choosing the right channel for a season pass - and about the only workaround I know is to delete the channels you'd prefer not to have used. Anyone know?
