can you get a lifetime refund?

I am looking to get a TiVo Premiere at my local Best Buy for $99 & it comes with a 30 day return policy. I want to ultimately get it with a $399 lifetime plan. If I immediately sign it up with a lifetime plan, but decide I don't like it within this 30 days & return it to Best Buy, is there any way of getting a refund? Is it easy or will it be a real pain?

The other option I have thought of is to go month-to-month for the first two billing cycles. If I like it and keep it, then upgrade it to a lifetime plan. Is this possible as well? Or is this not possible since you initially sign up for a longer commitment of some kind when doing a monthly rate?

Thought I read here that you get a 30-day sub trial with the new box when you register it and you have to decide to buy a plan or opt out before that expires. Not sure what that means to your ability to return it to Best Buy. The only real way to know your options is to call Tivo.
I haven't needed to do a refund as I like the lifetime offer, but from what I understand if you call Tivo and cancel it within 30-days of purchase you get a full refund.
I thought one could purchase a lifetime at any point. I seem to remember always as an option in my account, even during the commitment period.

Getting lifetime is one thing, getting a refund on it is a different question, and if you buy lifetime after having subbed it monthly for several months there may not be a separate 30 day trial period just for the lifetime sub.
I'd recommend going month-to-month until you decide to keep the Tivo. If you decide to go with it, then upgrade to lifetime. It's simply not worth the hassle of trying to get a refund on a lifetime sub. Your life will be much simpler the less you have to interface with Tivo Customer Disservice.

You can, but it won't go into effect until any prior commitment period ends. I.e. if you commit to 12 months, and purchase lifetime during the 5th month, you'll still have to pay monthly for the remaining 7 months before your lifetime service begins.
