Can TiVo units Communicate?

If I have two Toshiba units and one only has basic and the other has the advanced lifetime service... can I link them together and transfer shows from one to the other? I'm thinking that I may need to buy a unit with a DVD burner in it, but I want to burn shows from my other TiVo unit. Any thoughts?

You can't burn transferred programs. Not even from an identical model.

Both units need a full subscription to support MultiRoom Viewing (MRV) transfers.

DVD burner TiVos, such as the Humax DRT-800 (the one I own) and others, will only burn shows that were recorded on that unit. They will not burn transfered programs from another TiVo. So you would schedule the programs you want to burn to be recorded on that unit. You can always transfer them to the other unit for viewing if that is your desire.
