I got a Samsung smart TV a few months ago. My first smart TV so it's been a learning curve. I own two Premiers and a Roamio OTA. I dropped cable two years ago so the Tivos all run on antenna.

I don't know if this is a Samsung issue or a Tivo premiere issue. TiVo premier is connected to an HDMI. The premier's remote controls the TV volume and power on/off but not the HDMI input switching. Should it? I have to use the Samsung remote to get to the TIVO input.

The Samsung also has a Roku connected and a Playstation connected. The Roku remote turns on the Samsung and it defaults to the Roku HDMI, ready to watch content. The PS4 Remote powers on and defaults to that HDMI ready to use it the PS4. It's only the TiVo premiere that requires me to use the Samsung remote to move to the TiVo HDMI port and then select it before I can use to TiVo remote to interact with the Premiere.

I don't know if this is pertinent but the Premiere runs in classic mode. It's less confusing to use since I don't need any streaming content other than Fubo, which isn't available on TiVo.

Probably could achieve the same net effect but with HD screens by simply deselecting all the streaming apps in the "Add & Manage Apps" dialog. (I don't have a Premiere, so speculating...)

None of the apps are checked. We don't use the Tivo to stream apps. The question is not about apps. It's is about being able to use the Tivo remote to access Tivo as soon as the TV is powered on by the TiVo remote.

Currently, we have to juggle between the Tivo remote and the Samsung remote to access the HDMI "smart" input. I was wondering if all Premier users are experiencing this same issue or if their TiVo remotes, will turn in their smart TV and they see the TIVO menu when doing so, without having to use the Samsung TV remote to change the HDMI input.

Perhaps a more current TiVo remote would resolve the issue?

(This is posted to the TiVo Premiere DVR forum in the hopes that TiVo premiere owners who connect their premiers to smart TVs can comment on their experience.)

I suspect what you're actually seeing is that TE4 TiVo's and the PS4 can change the TV Input automatically using the CEC Features.

The TiVo Premiere does not have that ability.

There may also be an issue with the 'code' you used to program the Samsung in to the TiVo Remote. Consider trying different codes if the TiVo TV Input button doesn't operate the Samsung Input Command properly.

(And I hadn't had the time to finish composing a remote-related post, starting with the fact that your other non-TiVo devices support HDMI-CEC -- the feature that enables the automatic TV power-on and input selection when the Roku or PS4 remotes are used.)

Perfect answer! Many thanks. I changed the code and now the TiVo remote is able to control the HDMI Inputs for the smart TV.

I do thank you for your efforts to help. The TiVo remote does power on the TV and adjust it's volume. With the new code it also changes the input.

I added the interface information at the last minute wondering if it was the TIVO operating system interface that may be influencing the ability for the TiVo remote to switch HDMI Inputs.

I had no problem switching HDMIs on the old Samsung TV and the new Samsung TV responded to the TIVO remote's existing codes for power, volume, mute, etc.

Turns out it the TiVo interface was not related to the HDMI switching issue. I am sorry to confuse you by providing the interface information.

I don't have any questions in regards to TiVo apps or sidebars. I've tweaked sidebars on many a TiVo unit over the past 18 years. We have tried using the TiVo apps about 4-5 times over the years but we found the Roku device & remote a much better experience than what the premier can offer. Our premiere seems to lag when switching between TV/Netflix/Prime/YT. The Roku doesn't have a lag. Hence why I have kept the apps unchecked on the TiVo units.

As for the interface, we don't care for live/streaming TV always being displayed on the "newer" TiVo OS and the fact that search results for OTA programs are muddled with streaming apps and purchases. With classic we can turn the live Video Window off so if we tune in at the end of show being recorded it doesn't spoil the ending and the results reflect OTA programs without the need to go into settings and uncheck what we don't want to include.

Been using classic for 18 years and quite happy not to have to learn something different.

I think KK was referring to whether you were using the 'SD Menus' or the 'HD Menus'.

Because the SD Menus on a Premiere are horrible and the Picture-In-Picture can be disabled by simply pressing the Slow-Motion button while in TiVo Central.

Thank you. I have no questions in regards to side menus, SD or HD menus. I am quite familiar with them.

My post was specifically about the TiVo remotes ability to change HDMI Inputs on the "smart" tv. It does. It needed the correct code. Works great.

Very, very pleased with the TiVo interface we have chosen to use. It meets our needs quite well.
