You should really get a single non-DVR SD receiver for the Tivo, if you wish to keep using it. Install them wherever you desire.
Can I use both a dish network DVR and tivo at the same time?......
I posted in happy hour that we moved into our new house and got phone, dsl, and a satellite dish from AT& T that came with a DVR. We were planning to use the tivo on one TV and the DVR on the other and were trying to decide which to put where but it turns out though that the dish receiver with the DVR can be hooked up to one TV but the you can use the DVR on both TVs with two different remotes. I didn't even know such a thing was possible! VERY COOL!
Here is my issue. I haven't played with it much but tivo does seem more user friendly and in general I feel loyalty to tivo. Is it possible to set up the tivo and DVR to the same TV? My thinking is we could use the tivo most of the time and use the DVR if we need to record two things at once and still use the DVR to watch stuff on the second TV.

here is an update. We tried hooking up the tivo to the satellite receiver, which is a "2 wire" and bought an IR emitter but the tivo doesn't have a code for 2wire so there was no way for it to change the channels.
What are my options? Is it possible to get a different brand receiver from dish network that would be on the list? Does anyone know if there are others that can do the two TV thing with one receiver?
What model receiver is it? Do Dishnetwork codes work?

Dishnetwork currently has 2 DVRs that are dual tuners one is a the VIP622 which is an HD DVR and the other is the Dish Player-DVR 625 which is a standard definition DVR. I am assuming you have the 625. In any event both DVRs use Infrared (IR) to control the main tuner and UHF to control the second tuner. Your TiVo might be able to control the IR controlled tuner, but the only reason I could see for doing so is if you needed more hard drive capacity. I do have my old 510 dishnetwork DVR connected to a TiVo for that reason. You didn't mention what TiVo you have - if it is a Series 1 or single tuner Series 2 you could see what Type of OTA reception you get and use it for OTA recording of the network stations - which would then give you 3 tuners instead of just 2.

I haven't had time to look into this at all. I think I'll call AT & T tomorrow and see what my options are. We are getting used to the DVR but really missing the folders and the better search features. If we hadn't already had tivo I bet we would think the DVR is great! 
I really wish I had time to look into this before they came out! Someone on general chat suggested I look into making sure the satalite would work with the tivo but I got so busy with last min moving stuff that I didn't do it.

The tivo is a TOSHIBA SD-H400. We already tried to get the tivo to control the IR tuner and that didn't work. What is OTA reception? Okay, I called AT&T and the first person I talked to send me to the homezone person who said we could get a standard reciever for the tivo for $99 and $5 a month. Of course today is the last day to get that price. He also said we might be able to hook up the tivo to the regular DVR not the homezone but said there was no way to know if it would work or not. He suggested I go to "the tivo message board" to see if anyone has my tivo and that DVR, being a long time member I found that funny. He said they had two DVRs both dishnetwork one being a 522 and one being a 525.

Buy a cheap 301 or something from Ebay. That will work fine with the Tivo. I have an old 301 on my Tivo for Sky Angel.

OTA = Over the Air or what you get with an antenna. The TiVo you have can receive/record the old analog OTA signals but not the new digital OTA signals.What is OTA reception?
The TiVo Series 3 or the new TiVo HD do not work with satellite at all. The TiVo HD can work with both analog and digital OTA but can do nothing with satellite.My husband wants to buy the new two tuner HDTV tivo
You actually have to get more than just another dishnetwork receiver, you also have to have a setup that allows for the use of 3 tuners at the same time. Because the dish DVR already has and uses 2 tuners. If you decide to go with another receiver I recommend you have dish install it.Buy a cheap 301 or something from Ebay. That will work fine with the Tivo. I have an old 301 on my Tivo for Sky Angel.

So it looks like we could set up a non homezone DVR and have it work. Still we decided to go ahead and order a seperate reciever instead because they will install it and if we switch the DVRs out we have to install it. Also if we switch out DVRs we would lose all the stuff we already have recorded on the homezone. The help section needs to be updated that the homezone doesn't work, trying to find a way to contact tivo about this now.

Update. At & T send someone out last week to hook everything up. I cleaned the whole house, waited all morning, and he said he had never seen a homezone and no idea what to do. He said someone would call me from dish network. They never called and I called them and again explained to them exactly what I wanted to do.
Had an appointment today again cleaned the whole house, waited 2 1/2 hours, and AGAIN said he had no idea how to do what I wanted done.
Thinking of dropping them all together and going with the cable company.

Okay, we are still having some issues and looking for ideas since we have sunk all this money into making this work. We are having problems where the new receiver will sometimes go into standby mode. We aren't sure why it is doing this and couldn't find anything in the instructions. We thought maybe the kids or the baby would get a hold of the remote so we started making sure it was out of reach. When it standby when the tivo tries to record something it will change the channel the the first number will "wake up" the DVR and then it goes to the wrong channel.
I thing there is a setting to disable the update and screensaver.
