I called and tried. CSR said no-go. Also tried the online tool. Got a message that the Tivos had to be the same type.

No.dubluv said:i've just seen this in a thread, and wanted to know if there is a policy in force to allow series2 owners with lifetime to switch it to a new tivo hd or series 3?

You'd be smarter to keep it. Then you will get service on the new box for $6.99 a month vs. having to pre-pay for 3 yrs of service at $299.bullseyejoe said:Can you give your old box (with Lifetime) to someone else so they can use it for free?
I doubt that it matters. You could probably box up the original lifetime unit and as long as it's still on your account with the 2nd one still get the $6.99 service on the new box.bullseyejoe said:Thanks. Good idea. Just curious... what if I only had 1 tv?
The number of TVs you have has absolutely nothing to do with the number of TiVos.bullseyejoe said:Thanks. Good idea. Just curious... what if I only had 1 tv?
IIRC, the lifetime unit must contact the mothership "occasionally" to keep the MSD rate in effect.jmpage2 said:You could probably box up the original lifetime unit and as long as it's still on your account with the 2nd one still get the $6.99 service on the new box.
Interesting. I wonder how often this phoning home needs to occur to keep the account active or if a 2nd box on the account would still fullfil this phone home requirement.greg_burns said:IIRC, the lifetime unit must contact the mothership "occasionally" to keep the MSD rate in effect.
Once every six months.jmpage2 said:Interesting. I wonder how often this phoning home needs to occur to keep the account active or if a 2nd box on the account would still fullfil this phone home requirement.
Wish I could say the same. Love these Tivo's, but my Series 1 was $700 with $300 lifetime subscription. Then my new Series 3 was $800 plus ANOTHER $300 to transfer lifetime subscription. At $2000, that's more than 12 years worth of renting from the cable co. And I'll bet I'll want the series 4 inside of 5 years, adding another $1000 or so. I really wish the lifetime would transfer for free on one unit at a time for those of us early adopters that helped Tivo get off the ground. You know, loyalty rewards.ya i used my grandfathered S1 (it was on last leg anyways) to give my Hd lifetime.. if this one lasts me 7 years too it will be well worth the $$
