I have a local 24-hour news channel that I would like to always have a tuner on, UNLESS I'm recording 4 shows simultaneously. I would like the tuner to always show me what the local weather is when I turn it on. I could see other people being interested in a similar function, such as always having ESPN on, for example. Does anybody know a way that I could set this up without having intermittent recordings through the day to move a tuner? Thanks!

Bummer, I was hoping there was some fancy way to do it, other than multiple 5 minute manual recordings throughout the day. =)

There is. I have two basic Roamio boxes. One only records CBS, NBC, MSNBC and Comedy Central. I know that tuner 0 will always be on NBC and tuner 1 will always be on NBC. Usually tuner 2 is on MSNBC and tuner 3 will be on Comedy Central. My other Roamio has one tuner always on ABC but has two Mini units, so the other three tuners can vary a lot since they also record other channels.

I know when I turn on my TV that I will see MSNBC if I have MSNBC displayed when I turn off the TV. One important factor: I'm single and live alone. I seldom record during the day. Right now HBO and Cinemax are not encrypted, so I'm making some recordings.

You could set a manual recording to record the channel from midnight to 11:55PM every day and manually delete the previous days recording every day.

The alternative is get a Harmony remote and program it in to set the channel after it turns on the TV. There is also the Tivo android app + Tasker that could be set to intermittently send a change channel intent but I have never looked into doing that.

I also did a search and found that the telnet command still works with my bolt. At least I was able to connect to it.

I think they want the tuner to already be on that channel previously so they can start watching in the middle of a show and be able to rewind to the beginning of a show.
