Now, I understand I must subscribe for the service through TiVo, but when I try to do that on the TiVo web site, it appears I must buy the box from them as well as the service. Unfortunately, their office is closed now, so I can't get my answer from them.
Is it so that if one buys the box elsewhere, one cannot buy just the subscription from TiVo? In other words, we must buy both from TiVo?
Yes I bought a Series 2 box on Ebay and paid for a subscription, and it works fine. Just call them on the phone.alicekay said:I just ordered a TiVo box from Costco. I'm pretty sure you have to call TiVo to deactivate any TiVo.jlb said:And, if you ever buy a different box and you want to activate it and deactivate the old one, that is easy too from the website.
Not if you are swapping its service to another box.Stanley Rohner said:I'm pretty sure you have to call TiVo to deactivate any TiVo.
The tivo website has a "change service number " option to transfer an existing (non-lifetime) subscription from one tivo to another which results in the first tivo being deactivated. The option has been available for at least as long as I've had a Tivo.Stanley Rohner said:I'm pretty sure you have to call TiVo to deactivate any TiVo.
