I have an older Tivo, well beyond warranty, no longer sold. It has started making a grinding noise, I think the hard drive is failing. Can the hard drive be replaced or is all of "the smarts" on the HD?
If the Tivo is dead and I have to get a knew one, what model would you suggest. We use the basic stuff, record TV. play Netflix, etc.

Regards, Jim

Only Roamio, and newer models can support a swap/drop in drive and self-prepare it. Premiere and older requires its specific image to be on the drive to work.
