OK this is probably a dumb question and I did try to search for an answer, but is there anyway to tell by looking at the guide, what shows are going to record?

At the moment I find myself constantly leaving the guide to look at the todo list or at my season passes to see whats going to record, then back to the guide.

Thanks!

Well at least I'm not crazy and am missing something obvious. Seems like most other DVR's have this feature. It seems like a pretty obvious feature to want to have on these things.

Thanks

I guess I keep expecting that feature to be available! That is, I still hit GUIDE and look for a RED-Recording system. This is more so since getting the Series3 which has Dual Tuners. Trying to see if I can record a movie that extends into the next hour where there already might be two shows in the recording queue.

I'm sure that some folks will make the same argument that they make over showing FREE SPACE - they don't see a need and don't understand why anyone would want such a feature.

Clearly, it would take some additional programming since they would have to check the database (or whatever) and see what's lined up and compare it to the Guide data.

I am new to Tivo as well, from what I can see it looks like they interested in adding big features like more Internet services and less on improving what is already working.

Again I'm new to this thing, but there are probably a half dozen or more of these obvious features like this that are on other DVR’s that would make the whole experience much more satisfying

Yes, there are definitely little things they could to to improve things. This guide thing is one of them, and to be honest I can't think of that many more. :) (I have no need for free space indicator or PIP during menus, something other people seem to want.)

Weird, mine doesn't do that.
Nor does mine.

I've always preferred grid view as that's what I was used to with DishNetwork, and with DirecTV.

I had to have my HR10 in TiVo Style back when it was slower than tar, but have since switched it to grid view along with all the others, and no indication of recording anywhere, just the thumbs.

For me the things that make the most difference are things that let me do what I want with the fewest clicks and let me have as much info as possible.

Here's another thing that seems crazy, if I'm watching a recorded show, why can't I bring up the guide without the Tivo switching to live TV. I mean why interupt what you are doing just to take a peek at the guide? Its easy enough to get back to the recorded show, but why should it switch just because I was to look at the guide?

I think the main thing here is that TiVo is a recorder with the ability to watch live TV, while a cable DVR is a cable box with the ability to record shows.

Like I said above, I rarely use the guide (I search for shows I want to record instead - much easier). I think it's something you'll notice later on that you'll use less and less too.
