Hi All...

I know this topic is probably old news... I have had my SAT-T60 for quite a few years, and have it upgraded with two 120GB drives for a total capacity of "up to 212 hours"... That's about all I have done to it...

No ethernet connectivity... No cachecard... Works fine, and very happy with it...

I am in the middle of rearranging my audio/video set up and started to think about whether I would benefit from a cache/ethernet card... Honestly, I would probably not even be thinking about this, but just got triggered by this "project"...

I already have a CAT5 cable run to my living room...it feeds my XBox360...and could also feed my Wii if it weren't for it's built in wireless capability...

Any feedback? What am I missing?

I would look into the advantages of installing a CacheCard/TurboNET ethernet card, for you in your situation.

I am a huge fan of TurboNET cards. They work amazingly well and have a ton of advantages. The only disadvantage is cost, IMO.

Thanks supasta... That is exactly why I started this thread... to ask/learn about the advantages... not the marketing advantages...I can get that at the vendors site... the real life experiences of people who use it and the benefits they really value...

Oh yes...and any real life feedback on any disadvantages (lockups, or anything requiring workarounds...)

I would recommend TurboNet over CacheCard. CacheCard requires custom drivers installed whereas TurboNet doesn't - at least if all you want is to have the "daily call" made over the network. I did not find that CacheCard really added much in the way of performance to my DSR6000 (similar to your SAT-T60).

The real benefit of adding network connectivity is enabling you to add more software that lets you move shows off of the TiVo onto a PC. I'm not sure that live streaming is possible with an S1, but I never tried that. You'd have to add hobbyist software often called "hacking" to the TiVo for this, including disabling encryption.

I'd suggest asking more in the Underground section of the forum.
