Sorry, I didn't know whether to post this is the Series3 forum or the Help forum. I just had an M-card installed in the TiVo HD, but the installer did not write down the serial number on the card. I don't want to go pulling the card out unless need be. Can the serial number be found in the TiVo HD/cablecard diagnostics area? If so, where would I need to go specifically to find it?

The reason I ask is that I am not receiving some of the premium channels, and when I call up RCN, I was hoping to be able to tell them the serial number (and hoping this is something they can fix over the phone, and not needing to send another installer).

Don't be afraid to eject your cableCards. Power down your TivoHD. If it is like the S3, unplug the power cord to power it down. Eject your cableCard. Write down the numbers you find on the Mcard label. At least yours is in the front of the TiVo. I have the S3 and you have to crawl to the back...

Push your cableCard back into the slot firmly. Plug your TiVo back in. Your TiVo will power back up and you should then see TiVo Central. Wait about 15 minutes for everything to load up.

Check to see if you have your missing channels. Rerun guided set up. If you still don't have all your channels, call your cable company. They may also need the Host ID and Unit address which can be found:
Go to Messages and Settings>Settings>Remote,CableCARD, & Devices>CableCARD Decoder>Configure CableCARD 1>CableCARD Menu >CableCARD Pairing>

Also on the cableCARD Menu you can choose the Conditional Access screen. This one tells you if you are communicating with the cable company. It should say subscribed, enabled and other good sounding words.

Thank you, Ilene. I will try that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to screw anything up, or cause the card to go bad or anything like that (my track record with electronic components is not so hot).

I rethought what I was telling you and added more. Taking your cableCard out while the TiVo is off and putting it back in while it is still off - it doesn't even know that you removed it. Just make sure you put it back in the same slot as it was in.

Okay, thank you. Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town for the next few days, so working on this right now isn't an option. But as soon as I get back, I'll try this.

If you're mising channels it's likely they can fix it by sending a hit to the box, it's quite likely that they really won't need to have you tell them the serial number or anything off the card, they should have all that information in their system anyway. Usually, at least with the regular STBs, the "fix" will bring those channels up immidiately.

If the installer never gave dispatch the serial number of the card(s), it's quite likely that they aren't paired properly. If so, they can "hit" the cards all day and things won't work as expected. See the "CableCARD installation FAQ" sticky for more details.

if dispatch never got the serials yeah that would be a problem. From what I understand there is the cable card, which should already be in their system as the cable co owns it, then there should be a customer owned "device" added that is your box, the host number displayed on the TV screen is what they use for the serial number for that device, and when the cards are paired in the system the cable card is told to allow that device number to access it's decryption abilities.

Slot 1 and 2 basically seem to be seperate boxes to the cable system, since I seriously doubt the system can handle "pairing" 2 cards to one host ID.
