I am still getting to know my TiVoHD, but is there a way to to configure my TiVo HD to pull both the Digital cable channels via CableCards and also pull the analog cable channels in one config?

I am in a strange situation that I receive more channels via analog vs. my new CableCard install. There is a loophole in the way my billing was setup and it seems the CableCard install closes that loophole.

I am guessing I can't but I thought I would ask.

Well, my other 3 TiVo boxes that are still connected to analog cable in the house and they still receive the same channels they did before my CC install on the new box. It is my understanding that the signals are different but they run on the same wire.

Absolutely true. That doesn't mean you can get the analog versions if your cable company's system tells the cable card to map the digital versions to the channel numbers.

(And it's the signal that's the same - the frequencies are different)

You want to get the analog channels on a TivoHD? Pop the CableCARD(s) and rerun guided setup. All the channels you get (below 100) will be analog.

I am having the same exact issue as you describe. Won't you know after searching and searching and then finally posting a new thread on this topic that a few hours later I find what I am looking for. Well at least a little. Does not sound like there is a clear answer here.

If I understand what is being written correctly then can I run another cable jack to the TV (Different input) and then have the TivoHD with cable cards take care of the Digital Channels in one input and then have the analog channels through another input? There must be a better way.

I am thinking what happened is when I went and got the Cablecards from Comcast I downgraded to the basic cable package. I am guessing the Cable Cards were downgraded to the basic package, but the analog cable that runs into the house did not. Maybe they need to roll a truck eventually and put a filter on the house connection to block the analog stuff. I have seen this before.

Crazy I tell you

I'm curious, How can you tell for sure that you're getting the digital channels instead of the analog ones? What indicators do I have to look for?

Check on the Diagnostic screen and it will tell you, or simpler yet, just push REC button. If you get an option for Recording Quality (good, best, etc.) then it is analog. No such option for digital.

I'm interested in this too.... I don't get MSNBC through my cable card (not in my lineup so I get a blank channel) but I still get it via analog cable. (Watching it now on my TV bypassing the Tivo.) It would be great to be able to have the dual lineups like you can do on the old Series 2 boxes where you could have satellite and analog cable.

Me too, I wish there was a switch in the TiVo menu to go from analog to digital (without having to pull/insert cable cards or repeat guided setup).

I want digital most of the time for the extra HD channels, but I would also like to go analog some of the time for two reasons (1) to have TTG (TWC copy protects all digital channels) and (2) at least one of my favorite SD channels has MUCH BETTER quality on the analog version (too many A/V glitches in the digital version). The analog channels are remapped to digital channels when the cable cards are used.

You could *possibly* hack it via the old scheme done for S1s "cable and cable box" so that it would use the tuner for the analog channels and only use the box for the channels required.

This involved hacking the Tivo and duplicating the lineup, essentially having two lineups. But since the TivoS3/HD itself cannot control an external box, this very well might not be possible. But the idea would be to essentially have it 'set up' for both analog and cablecard at the same time.

Aaah, here's the very old thread.

If someone figures out how to do it, please provide details. Even though I now finally have cablecards, I would likely use it at least for *some* of my analog stations, even if just for recording capacity reasons. (Digital stations seem to be at LEAST twice as large -- then again, I use(d) Tivo Basic for virtually all analog recordings.)
