I suspect that all the cable company executives can see is that third-party equipment with cable cards would threaten their set-top box rental and advertising revenue, and would allow customers to buy content from outside sources (e.g., Unbox vs. their VOD). :rolleyes:

TiVo would LOVE to be able to provide access to those services. But the issue, discussed at length in this forum, is that the cable companies are being down-right obstructionist about a creating a standard for two-way that makes sense for consumer electronics companies such as TiVo. The cable companies' current proposal, which requires that any box supporting two-way must in addition download and run the user interface software from the cable company (part of OCAP), is a non-starter.
