I looked for an answer to this question, but cannot seem to find a definitive answer.

Does the pairn of a cable card, pair the device to the cable network, or to the modem itself.

The reason I ask, is I replace my modem, will I need to re-pair the card?

Pairs with the device it's plugged into. Nothing to do with the modem and no need to re-pair after a modem swap.

However, if this modem swap requires any changes to your account (different plan, etc.), then there's the possibility they could screw up something else on your account and break the pairing with your Tivo. My cable company would disable my card and tuning adapter out of the blue every few years just for the hell of it. So anything is possible.

Thanks! Everything is staying the same except that I am now gonna' use my own modem/router and save 14 bucks a month from xFinity.
