I want to buy a Tivo HD, but I have to wait until the Verizon Fios service is available in my area, which should be soon, it will not work on my current satellite service. I found the Tivo HD unit for $267 shipped and the Tivo wireless adapter for $35 shipped, does anyone think these prices will fall in the next few months, or is this a good deal? It is almost like I will be getting the wireless adapter free. What do you think - should I get it early or wait?

Well, it may not fall, but it is highly unlikely it will get more expensive. I suggest waiting.

When will FIOS be available for you? Once Christmas shopping starts in late November, you will likely be able to get better deals.

Also, any chance you can run some network wire to the future Tivo location? That will save you some $.

Well it is available in our Central Office I have Fios Internet, but want the TV also, but I am in the city, and they have to make a franchise deal with them, until that is done, I will have to wait. I want the TV, Internet, and phone for $99.99.
But I have been reading up on the cablecards and all for the HD unit. I think it is great I can bypass getting a set top box. I will have to see how it goes I guess, I have had a Tivo S2 with lifetime for several years now.

Actually, those are pretty good prices.

I'd be surprised if we see a list price reduction until Christmas, if then.

Just as long as you undestand that with the Tivo's HD an Series 3, there has been an ongoing problem with pixelation, mostly during playback... If you don't mind the smaller hard drive, or can swap out the Tivo HD drive then the Tivo HD "lite" is the way to go...

That is until the cable cards get introduced to the Tivo, was quite a pain going though 14 cards to get paired...

Does the Tivo HD have these pixrlstion problems in SD as well? I actually do not have an HDTV, I just want it to work in SD for now. Maybe later will upgrade the TV.
no. And you can read about how the pixellation issues are being corrected by TiVo inc. in this forum so when youa re ready for more than analog you will be covered. Might want to look into an OTA (over the air) antenna as well. You can record that HD but play it through SD outputs on the TiVo for a sharp looking SD picture.

Dude, when's the thread crappin' going to end? Everyone who has been on these boards for at least a couple of weeks knows that you were unhappy with the TivoHD that you returned and don't seem to be very pleased with the Series 3. If you're that unhappy with it, return your Series 3 and say adios to Tivo.

At first I could empathize with your plight, but over the past few days, you've taken to posting vast exaggerations and generalizations that are not fact-based in many threads regardless of the topic of the thread.

Just my thoughts.

Are you saying the $267 includes tax & shipping? Where did you find that deal? Thanks.

The best price I have found is Amazon.com at less then $280 inc shipping - $30 if you take their CC for a total price of less than $250.

Take the pixelation comments with a large grain of salt. Many experienced pixelization problems with the shipping level of software. Tivo released an upgrade where the problems all but disappeared for Motorola CableCARD users and all OTA/basic cable users.

Tivo has acknowledged that there is still a problem with SA cards, but that they have a fix in testing that expected to be released soon.

(Update: the c2 level fix has been released)

FWIW, I have a Motorola MCard and saw some issues on the a1 software level. They went away on the b2 level.

i would try to be as accurate as possible when you make a statement like that (about pixelation), in order not to give the wrong impression. firstly, my tivo HD works fantastic, and i have no issues like pixelation. if you check back, most of those issues were with specific cc's (scientific atlanta), not all cc's. i'm just trying to make sure no one makes blanket statements that could hurt all that tivo has done to try and make the problems as minimal as possible. i've just d/l the latest software update (8.17c), and i believe this is the third in a short period of time. this shows that tivo is attempting to correct things quickly. again, just make sure you're stating facts, not a broad statement that would be very easily construed as fact, and possibly effect sales or possible new subs buying the tivo HD in the first place.

also, all the subs who have not had problems are not as vocal as those few who are experiencing some difficulties. i think its safe to say there is always a percentage of units that will experience some problems, but hopefully they can be corrected quickly. considering the excellent response from tivo on this site, i applaud tivo's presense here, and hope those who've considered returning their units will take advantage of the additional 30 day window before giving up.
