I just bought my 3rd Tivo, the new Tivo HD, called up Brighthouse Networks to bring out a cablecard which was a headache in itself.

Well the Brighthouse guy here in Bakersfield, CA just left my house and he said, our cablecards don't work with that Tivo. I mentioned the FCC regulation and he said, I know, but the cablecards we currently carry don't work with that Tivo and we just figured this out yesterday.

We have put in an order for the ones that work, but we don't know what is holding it up. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Maybe the Brighthouse guy was confused and thought that he 'Needed' to use an m-card and instead he had brought two s-cards. That said you need either two s-card CableCARDs or a single m-card CableCARD but any CableCARD out there today should work with the Tivo HD.

The reason he told you they don't work is simply he was not trained to do the pairing of the cards...

Better for him to say that the cards would not work then to tell you the truth...

He has no clue how to do the setup...

I had this problem with BH... BH has but one tech that is trained to do the cable card install here... How sick is that ?

Call BH, ask that they send out a tech that IS qualified to work on your Tivo...

They may tell you, as they did in my case, that they can not, will not have anything to do with a Tivo, just their own equipment DVR..

If you must, then call Tivo, explain the problem you are faced with BH, then do a threeway call with Tivo an your service provider...

I'v had 5 BH installers out, only one knew what he was doing...

I have now left two messages for the Tech Supervisor... he has not called me back. The person who answered the phone claims that they don't have cards compatible with HD Tivos.... I corrected her, citing that her own tech said he had installed them in the first Series 3 Tivo.

These people are all morons... I hate cable companies.

Ok... it has now been more than 30 days in which Brighthouse assured me they would have the Multi-stream card ready for me. I am #2 on their list.... anyway... they still don't know when they are getting them and flat out refuse to use two single stream cards.

What recourse do I have? I don't want to drop cable, because satellite isn't supported by the HD Tivo. I threatened calling the FCC but they just scoffed at me and said go ahead, we'll get out of it by citing some exception.

Meanwhile, my crappy Scientific Atlanta DVR from Brighthouse is a piece of crap.... It decides to stop recording shows all the time and I am left to watch them online. Its interface sucks, and doesn't understand the term Season Pass... it records 2 shows then decides it doesn't want to record your program anymore... it just stops.... I have had this happen to 4 different shows now... shoot... I might as well just record to a VCR or something since I had to set up everything every single day.....

HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!!!!

They won't give you two single-stream cards, or you refuse to use them?

I'm not sure how/why they can refuse you two single-stream cards. If anything, it's more money for them since they're going to charge you twice.

Forget the threats. Submit a complaint with the FCC on their web site. It may take up to a month for the complaint to reach your cable operator, but they'll almost certainly get it squared away after they receive the FCC complaint letter.
