I enjoyed the premiere tonight. John Larroquette fits in perfectly, and there were some touching moments tonight. I loved Jerry's head butt! I'm still not sure about the new cast members, but it just seemed like the transition was easier than previous seasons.

This was a spectacular season premiere. Loved it! I was afraid that the show might become tired, but for me, it was an absolute thrill to have everyone back in my living room again. I even liked the "Blossom" looking British girl. Katie Lloyd character.

I didn't see the ending coming with Shirley and Carl Sack. Strange bedfellows?

Alan in drag again! Such the cherub!

I didn't quite get his name in the opening credits (he had a "middle nick name" so is he a rapper?), but the guy who played the accused murderer was fantastic. He has SUCH a chilling look. I'm glad his case will continue because I want to see more of him in this role.

BL is back and just as good as ever!

I've tried to stick with it, but the political agenda is a tad too much...

I want to be entertained, not browbeaten by political agendas... (from either side)

Adios...

I was a little disappointed by John Larroquette's character. In the same universe as Boston Legal and The Practice he played the psychotic killer who was his own lawyer. I'd hope it was him back again when we first saw him. He was fine, but I'd hoped for the old crazy guy.

The new girl's got some cojones. When she was spit on and had the table flipped in front of her she sat still and calm.

Good start of the season, with an extra 30 mins ( 20 mins TiVo time ) as well.

There was an awful lot of filler. I'll bet it will be real easy for them to cut that down to the normal hour long show when it comes time to either repeat or syndicate the show. Yet it still kept me glued to the TV for the entire hour (TiVo viewing time) while letting them run 50% more commercials in a highly rated show.

+1

When I saw JL, I was thinking 'WTF? How did he go from being psychotic killer to partner?'

I really liked the new girl. It will do the show some good to have a level-headed normal person on the show. She reminded me of the type of character Lindsay was on The Practice.

While I find the old judge pretty funny, it was a bit too over-the-top for me this week. Can we seriously believe that a judge would still be practicing if he can't understand anything about any of the cases that go before him? I mean it sounded like they won because of a coin flip.

I also liked that they moved Brad to a DA. It's always good for a lawyer show to have recognizable people on both sides of the argument. They never figured out what to do with him as a lawyer anyways.

I couldn't follow Shirley's argument either. The research program was to investigate alternatives to green house gas emitting enegry sources, not find evidence for climate change. If you want to argue the Exxon money would direct the research towards sub-optimal (capital-intensive) technology, fine, but that wasn't their diatribe.

On Charlie Rose, the CEO of Exxon said the railroads became moribund because they thought they were in the railroad business instead realizing they were in the transportation business.

I don't quite see how Brad would go from partner to Assistant DA. I understand that logic doesn't exactly rank high on the list of things to think about for this show, but it's an odd career path for a new husband and father.

Why not? Seems to me the hours would be a bit better and the job more stable. Certainly not more money, however.

Well, I don't know what he was being paid at the firm, but an ASSISTANT DA seems to be fairly low in the pool, so it's gotta be a fairly significant cut. As for stable, I thought that was the entire point of making partner.

-shrug- Not the biggest deal.

Brad has always been a truth and justice kind of guy. He is a former marine and a proud conservative. I could see him getting sick of defending scum bags and want to put the bad guys away. He would also be a prime canidate to take over as the DA one day. His wife is still a partner so I doubt money would be an issue. They said she was on maturnity leave so for now she is a partner.
