Wow!

This show just keeps getting better. So many game changers in this episode, it seemed like a season finale.

Throwing the daughter under the bus, kills any piece of humanity he has shown. It will be interesting to see how they go with his character.

I was starting to question if I wanted to keep watching this show.

Then I saw this episode. Great way to draw me back in! Kane definitely showed EVERYONE who is still "Boss"!
Absolutely agree. This show was always good, but not great. The last couple of episodes have elevated the game, and it is now must-see TV for me. Random thoughts:

* I am fascinated by Kitty. Something about her looks, just captivating. She is certainly no typical beauty queen, but I find myself obsessed. And the dresses she's in aren't hurting.

* Would having a daughter caught in a drug sting really "rescue" him? Is the public sympathy from that enough to erase the huge number of god-awful things he's involved in? The show treated his announcement as a cleaning of the slate--suddenly he's golden again. It just seems in today's world that wouldn't be enough for a fresh start.

* But throwing her under the bus? That's colder than cold.

* Zajac is an idiot. Has been from day one. Any public figure who continually beds anything with two legs is doomed. This is America, not Italy.:D Or France.:D:D

* I love Stoney. He's a great #2 guy (chief of staff?)
Where's Kane gonna go for drugs now?

He keeps killing off his supplier!
I agree! This series just jumped a notch to even better, and it was already good! Krane's use of his daughter, despicable! And, let's see if Kitty winds up somewhere near Motta (?)....

Zajac...h-m-m..Krane needs him, I think, if he can control him. Although I don't know if Krane controls him as much as his wife does. Wow.....

Krane just keep getting darker and darker....
I think Kane (and it is "Kane" not "Krane" brebeans, unless you are making a joke about KG's most famous character prior to this show) threw his daughter under the bus in part to get back at his wife for her disloyalty. I also think that he can "save" her by proving during her trial (with a little "help" from the Chicago legal community, nudge, nudge) that she was unwillingly caught up in the whole drug trafficking thing and is innocent of any wrongdoing. She is a minister, after all and only trying to help the poor of her parish.

Did we know that Zajac was boffing the alderman's wife before we saw the pictures? The fact that we saw him considering making a play for Kane's wife a few scenes before pointed out that he was a total horndog, but damn, man keep it zipped!

The "telephone chain" he pulled to expose Kitty was brilliant, although I admit I saw it coming as soon as he told Kitty and didn't tell Stone.

And another total "I own you" move to make Kitty send out the pics (wanna bet there were a few more pics that he gave her that she didn't send out?)

Also consider how brilliantly the producers set this all up. Remember the scenes with Kane's (we assume) "Personal PI" -- how he moved the doctor that made the diagnosis out of Chicago and had the dirt on the woman who said that Kane made her redact the report about the toxic waste dumping? At the time didn't you wonder why they were there?

We had no hint that Kane knew the whole sordid life that Emma was leading, and who/what the BF was. Mayor Evel knows all again.

We need some redeeming value in Mayor Kane. Can we hope that he really wanted to get Emma help?

You don't keep a long term audience by having the lead be nothing but an all-knowing dark lord. Even JR and Tony Soprano had interesting character points.

I dunno from King Lear that this plot is based on. Short of reading a wikipedia synopsis, does this make sense? Does King Lear ever gain any sympathy?

I'm pretty sure it was implied that it was known that the daughter is/was a junkie, and that that was the source of her being absent from her parent's lives (the gap he spent the early part of the show trying to bridge), I recall one of his enemies saying something like "we've got stuff on the daughter". I think it shows how deep the doodoo was that he was in, and how big of a rabbit he had to pull out of his hat to make the problems go away (or at least get off of the front page).

I do know King Lear pretty well, and I can see the parallels. I believe the phrase you are looking for is "I am a man more sinned against than sinning"

Sure, we did. He went to visit her and witnessed drug activity and also her boyfriend.

My question, (and if the answer is yes, he's even more of a sleazebag) is, was his motivation to re-connect with his daughter solely to "use" her at some point? Given his character, I wouldn't put it past him, but yikes!

Also, I don't think (nor do I want) something redeeming about Mayor Kane. I would like to see a redeeming character, somewhere however! Do we know who it will be? Will it be anyone? Perhaps Ezra is a somewhat redeeming character....well, not really, but he does stay focused, is loyal and is clear about his allegiances. Not that his allegiances are to slimey people, but he is one of the only characters that has stayed focused.

We saw him leaving a meeting with Ross just as his (Ross) wife was arriving, and Zajac turned to check out her booty, so the set-up was laid out for us, which were obviously confirmed with the photos.

I say Kitty will go for an abortion, since she now sees Zajac as not just a cheater, but as a player.

I think his motivations were (in no particular order):
To reconnect with his estranged daughter before he dies/goes senile
To use her free clinic to get his drugs "incognito"

but when push came to shove and the choice was "keep in power or throw daughter under the bus" we see the choice he made.

OK so we knew there was "interest" (but given Zajac, that's no big deal), but not "action". That's what I thought, so the reveal that the pics were Zajac and Ross' wife (not Kitty) was a surprise.

Of course her name is "Kitty (Katherine, I'd guess) O'Niel" implying that she's Irish Catholic so she'll may have to go against her religious principles (assuming she has principles). I hope that she does and that it doesn't ruin her life (the abortion, not the fact that she needed one). One of my pet peeves with American TV is that people never seem to have an abortion (hell they seldom even use the "a" word) and get on with their lives.
