When I power down Bolt by pulling the plug it does not restart when it is plugged back in. I need to go through a process of unplugging and plugging in again. Ultimately, after several tries, It goes to the first Tivo screen and then boots up normally. I have tried getting a new power cord but that did not help. Per Tivo instructions I plugged the unit directly into the wall rather than a surge protector. That did not do anything either. I am in an area where there are occasional power outages and I fear that one day I will not be able to start it up. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Are you getting the four flashing lights? If so, that's not good and your TiVo Bolt is toast. Call TiVo support and see if you can heckle them for a new one. If you're lucky, you can talk them down to $39, I don't remember how much I paid for my new one, either that or $70. After going through this three times, I finally bought a UPS. I think it was this one. Been running with it for almost a year. I've had a couple of power outages since then, and normally, this would've killed my Bolt+. but it's still running fine. The electric company actually had scheduled maintenance last year and said it would be down for several hours, I was on vacation, but I hear it was around 6-7 hours, and this is what killed my Bolt+, and it was plugged into the wall, as well. My previous ones were not, so I fibbed when talking to tech support. I don't know offhand if the UPS I bought would last that long, with only my Bolt+ drawing power from it.
Thanks for your response, however, I have resolved the problem. I simply ran an extension cord to another outlet and it started fine. The unit seems very very finicky to power. I have a standby full home generator so no need for a UPS. I still need to get a surge suppressor that works with Bolt as I do not like the idea of having it plugged directly into the wall. Again, thank you.
Umm, not quite 100 sure about this. What about the 5-second drop between power going out and the generator coming on (assuming your whole-house generator is like ours) unless you have some other technology to take care of that period? That 5-second period is what the UPS protects any electronic device, when the Tivo will reboot and if you're like 99% of the rest of us, when the hard drive can get blotto.

100% agree. Last month I dropped power for 1 second 6 times in 15 seconds. I could only tell since my lights flickered and the UPS front panel came on.
