I have a ota bolt, it drops the picture signal to the tv and the screen goes blank for a couple minutes then the picture returns for a couple minutes, this will repeat over and over. The remote mini that uses it is not affected and has both live tv and recordings. The dvr records and all the menus are available. The problem happens immediately when live tv or a recording is selected.

Usually this shows it as a weak TV antenna signal, yet you did not say what the signal strength and SNR are. They should be under Settings, Help, Account info, diagnostics.

why would antenna signal strength affect the playing of a recording? new and old recordings play fine on the mini that is connected to the Bolt. The problem happens on all stations and all recordings. Signal strength is different depending on the channel selected but as I mentioned this problem is not station dependent.

You would need to verify that the channels are working right on LiveTV. Any problems and it will be recorded as well.
If the issue also includes the Tivo menus, then the cable connecting to the TV is suspect.

when I am in the menus or guide, live tv plays just fine in the background. when I hit live tv regardless of the station the tv goes blank. If I select an old recording the tv goes blank right after it begins. I have changed hdmi cables already. the signal strength for the current station is 72 and snr 29db in diagnostics. Everything works as it should until I go to full screen live or recorded tv. this problem just started today, the recordings I am attempted to play are old and worked fine in the past and play fine on the mini.

You say it goes blank, how long?

What resolutions do you have enabled?

If you are on Hydra (TE4, v21, Tivo software), you may be getting in-line ads when you play. Screen with triangle Play on screen would mean ad was not downloaded.

The screen usually goes blank within a few seconds after selecting full screen. It appears turn the tv off, it comes back on anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes. sometimes it stays on for two or three minutes and sometimes only for a few seconds and repeats the cycle.

The resolution is set to auto and has been since it was installed a year ago.

I tend to never set anything to AUTO.

With Tivo and more than 1 resolution set, it will cause the TV to blank/blink to adjust to the new resolution of the video (recordings, etc., sometimes the commercials have their own resolutions.). This can happen even if you were to change channels in LiveTV with the new channel of a different resolution.

I moved the Bolt to another tv and it works fine. I connected my mini to the problem tv and had the same issue. It appears the tv is the problem not the Tivo. Thanks for your responses.
