I have never heard of a story where someone actually recovered from 4 flashing lights. Consider yourself lucky. Last time this happened to me, I was on vacation. I had my mother unplug the Bolt and when I got back a week and a half later, I plugged it back in, still the four flashing lights...even after a week and a half of no power to the device. I had to call TiVo again and ask for a replacement. What I would do, is invest in a good UPS, something like
this. I ordered something like this (I can't remember if it was APC or another brand) right after my last incident and I've had power outages since then, but my TiVo was not affected at all, aside from losing signal only during the power outage, but that's no biggie.
I've had to call TiVo maybe three times now and ask for a replacement Bolt+ because my units kept dying after a power outage. I even got desperate and actually plugged one unit directly into a wall as TiVo Suggested, instead of a power strip...it made no difference, my Bolt+ would still die following a power outage. Replacing your bolt absolutely sucks, because you lose everything...your One Passes, your recordings, all of your app settings...literally, everything. I really don't know of a good way to continuously back it up to another device, either...unfortunately...or should I say, set up unmanaged or automated backups. Another thing you might want to think about doing, is getting a USB-powered laptop
fan. That'll help lower your temps a little bit, and even a little bit can be good enough, particularly if you live in an area that has consistent 100+ degree weather and you don't cool the rest of your house down with AC.
