BOKKMARKS Don't Record, But They Should.

Sometimes I want to just select certain episodes to watch and not make a One Pass. It's easy to select episodes to bookmark for streaming, but if you want to select them for future recording, you need to create a WishList with the program name followed by list of (optional) episode titles. Crazy!

I believe that bookmarking is a separate action from recording. You can mark a program for one or the other or both (these are separate actions).

What irks me is when the bookmarking does not result in the program showing up as available until days after it has aired (in my experience, typically three to four days or more). TiVo (even in the pre-Rovi days) was never very efficient in tracking streaming programming, and I have no real expectation that this feature will improve on the DVR system (maybe the Android-based TiVo Stream 4K will operate better in this tracking feature).

The current status, however, is better than nothing, but it is still annoying to see bookmarked programs parked in the Not Currently Available folder as much as a week after they have been shown/dropped on HBO/HBO Go, for example.

Well, it's not so much programming, as it is poor design. The programming does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Bookmarks were born of the idea that you should *not* be recording shows, you should be streaming them. In fact, they exist partly so that once a show is available to stream, you can delete shows from your hard disk, and replace those recorded shows with bookmarks so that you can still watch the shows, from the same folder, even though you no longer have a local copy. It would be entirely counterproductive if the recording engine spent time, disk space, and tuners rerecording such shows. The assumption was of course that over time *everything* would be available via streaming from one service or another, and that would be *more* convenient than a local recording.

It was a daft idea. But don't blame the programmers for implementing the daft idea to spec.
