It's never lupus. Everyone knows that.

Season pass cancelled.

I saw about of a minute of it. That was enough. It's hard to take the "Miller High Life Guy" seriously as a doctor.
I'm giving it a little more time. This was actually a true pilot episode, as opposed to a first episode, so we'll see once we get into the series if they make any changes.

It's not bad. I think the biggest problems I have, and they're pretty glaring:

1) It's going to be pretty darn hard to do a series about medical examiners doing their jobs (or a Hollywood interpretation of such) without being able to actually show a body. I was endlessly amused to see all the cadavers with sheets draped over them... it's rather difficult to do an autopsy that way.

2) As was made crystal clear to Delaney's character: she is not a cop, she is an M.E. They do not go out and start questioning people at a crime scene and investigating leads, at least as far as I know.

I'm not sure if a show will work, where 80% will take place in a lab where they have to constantly tapdance around not being able to show what they need to show, and the 20% that doesn't take place in a lab is completely ridiculously unbelievable.

The biggest part that works is Delaney, who is good here as always.

And I thought that diagnosis was a pretty clear nod to the "never lupus" meme.

Yeah, I did as well, given that this series lifts liberally from House. I mean, she even had the "House moment," that moment that comes 9 minutes before the end of the episode where a completely unrelated conversation gives him/her the answer they need to crack the case.
The reviews haven't been too kind for this one.

I think I'll stick with one doctor show...House.
I've recorded it but haven't watched it yet, but I have one question.
Why can't they show a body? Is this part of the storyline or something?

Standard and Practices.

They do show a body, but the majority of it has a white sheet draped over it for broadcast television modesty reasons.
CSIs, NCISs, L&Os, etc, show bodies, don't they? How is this show different? It aired in the last hour of prime time.
*shrug* Don't ask me. Ask the dead body with the sheet on it. :)
I liked it, but it's at a bad time slot for me, so we will see.

An M.E. show that has them go out into the field etc... doesn't bother me, it would be a pretty boring show if we just stayed in the morge. Other shows have done it, "Quincy" "Rizzoli and Isles" to name 2.
It wasn't really a bad episode (and I don't mean that as a backhanded insult). It just didn't wow me enough to add another medical show to my lineup of hows I watch.

Also, in hindsight, that one time it actually was lupus on House.
I didn't notice the sheet thing, but I think that would be a pretty silly reason for it to be on there. Like the other poster mentioned, they show bodies all the time on other crime shows without sheets.

I thought it was an ok pilot, but it was really unrealistic that these medical examiners were tagging along on the investigations. It's bad enough that on the CSI's, they are always questioning suspects and chasing down criminals, but she is not even a cop! :)

They could always go with the NCIS "shine a really bright light on the naughty bits so you can't make out any details" approach.

For the record I didn't watch this and have no intention of doing so after the miserable reviews, even though I've been a fan of Dana Delany ever since we got a good glimpse of her naughty bits sans sheet years back in Exit to Eden.
I just watched it and will give it another shot. Probably two, as there is a new episode Sunday and on Tuesday. I don't have anything else in that time slot so I might as well record something.
Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan, what's not to like?

Same here. We get a quick three episode blast to determine whether it's SP-worthy or not.

Agree 100%. I like Delaney, but seeing an ME character grilling suspects (and leading detectives around in the field) just pushes the BS meter into overload. So much that it takes me out of the moment time and again. Plus, her overconfidence & chutzpah factor was a little heavy (ya' think!), pushing her character slightly to the unbearable side. But this was a pilot, so that can change.

One or two more eps will decide.

But isn't the backstory that she was a neurosurgeon who can't practice anymore due to a car accident that left her with shaky hands? That's not a profession known for its shrinking violets.

Sheesh! I guess all y'all are too young to remember Quincy, M.E. :D

Not me! That was one of my fav shows back in the day.
