Came home from work tonight to a black TV screen no audio/no video. Recording light was on Tivo but nothing on screen. Cable box was on. All programs recorded since 1AM this morning were listed in the now showing list with a 0:00 (Partial) run time. There was no problems in anything recorded before them, and nothing was touched between the good shows and the bad ones. Cable signal was good using other input to TV. Changed out the cable box and no change. Problem seems to have been resolved with a reboot of the Tivo. Tivo downloaded the program guide at 12:45 and indexed at 1AM.

Any ideas on what this might be?

That is EXACTLY what has happened to me too, tonight. I also have a 40 hour Tivo (from Tivo, not Weaknees) and it is just 1 week old. I came home tonight to find the "black screen of death" on Live TV and exactly 0:00 minutes of American Idol that had "recorded". The unit did respond to my remote and all Now Playing recordings played back okay.

Yes, when I rebooted the Tivo everything was back to normal -- but this is a brand new machine! FWIW, I also have a 300 hour Humax Tivo and it was unaffected.

One thing I want to mention is that I did have problems with the 300 hour unit freezing up (though it was a total freeze, not just Live TV) several months back. Called Tivo and they said to unplug it from the surge protector, because that was a known issue with those devices. I did and it hasn't frozen once since. The new Tivo IS connected through that surge protector so maybe that's the cause -- but I somehow doubt it.

Since the initial post in this thread is very recent and for the same unit, I'm also wondering whether this is a hardware defect that has just cropped up. I searched through the Forum and found no other posts mentioning this "0:00" length recording issue coupled with a Black (not blue) Live TV screen.

Anyone else heard of this before?

Okay, I talked to Tivo Support and FWIW, they say the issue is linked to a low signal level on the channel it was tuned to, not anything to do with the power supply. The support person didn't think it was a big deal, but I wonder how often this will happen. It never happened with my other Tivo.
