I forget, do they do the marathon the same week as the finale? I google it and boy, the runner's board really go off on the idea of them doing this. Nasty stuff. Typical skinny people talk about fat people and how this is a disgrace. Really uncool.
Yeah, I'm bummed that there appears to be no marathon this time around. Running helped me lose 70 lbs (okay so I've gained 20 of it back but I'm holding steady there) and it's something kind of special to me. I'm 225 and slow but I'm out there hitting the trails regularly. Seeing the BL contestants complete a marathon (on a warm day through hills no less) makes me feel good about the world.
And to all those "real runners" dissing us because we "aren't fast enough" or "aren't strong enough" or let's be honest "not cool enough for you", I say phbbbbtt!
I don't even know why they care. We are all trudging along in the back, they never see us. Heck they're home by the time we come on through the finish gate. I think it really boils down to them being bothered that their little clique is somehow less cool because the rest of us are now out there trying to get fit.
Not all of us are blessed with: genetic advantage, time to train, and youth. And because of that we should somehow be disallowed from trying to run long distances?
I always want to ask these people just what is the minimum criteria? Is it a 4 hour marathon? 3 hours? Just exactly when do the rest of us earn the right to say we ran a marathon? How fast is your time, hunh?
I run faster than some and slower than many. I don't judge any of them. On an out and back race I will clap for the elite as they are coming back and give a thumb's up to those I meet on my return lap. We are all trying to run the best race we can.
Sorry it just ticks me off when I encounter people with that attitude. They seem to need to put others down just to pick themselves up. I try not to let it bother me but sometimes it still does.
