That's absurd. He wasn't even charged with rape; he was charged with two counts of being an "accomplice" to rape. Argue all you want about rape and sex and control and polygamy, et. al., but nothing about what he did in this case warrants the possibility of a life sentence. Nothing at all. This is all about persecution, not prosecution.Mr. Jeffs, 51, faces up to life in prison.
Please explain how that differs from any other priest/minister/preacher, other than by a difference of opinion of what sorts of things are right or wrong.sieglinde said:I think the fact that the two towns were a law unto themselves disturbs people. The fact this one Fascist dictator had control over those people who found it hard to leave because he had them fooled into thinking he spoke for a God. By this argument, why is Manson in prison? AFAIK, he personally didn't kill anybody.dswallow said:That's absurd. Since day one of Big Love, I was under the assumption that Roman was based on Warren Jeffs.jilter said:
That was part of the problem with this case. Jeffs was not charged with polygamy, and the marriage/rape in question was not a polygamous marriage. Nobody in this case was charged with polygamy as there was no polygamy involved directly in this case.GDG76 said:BS ruling. Then again I never understood the polygamy laws. Who really cares if someone wants three wives or husbands?
Ummm. There are lots of priests and ministers who don't attempt to exert control over the lives of their followers.dswallow said:Please explain how that differs from any other priest/minister/preacher, other than by a difference of opinion of what sorts of things are right or wrong.
That's untrue. Different levels of control, perhaps, but by definition they exert control.Royster said:Ummm. There are lots of priests and ministers who don't attempt to exert control over the lives of their followers.
There is usually a clause that it is allowed if the couple is married.sieglinde said:At least in my state, having sex with underage children is against the law if one of the partners is more than three years older as the 19 year old man was.
