Hello, my second Orbi router has died. I had it and 3 satellites on an wired back haul. TiVo never functioned well with it with regular interrupts and lost connections to the Edge+. I am looking to change mesh networks. Any recommendations as to a brand/system to works best with TiVo Edge+Minis?

Thanks,

John

Any chance you can conect them with Ethernet? I use ASUS AiMesh and have reliable WiFi but have all my remaining Mini's plugged into Ehternet. You could also look at Moca as another wired option.
Thanks for the reply. I had everything on Ethernet. Funny you mention Asus as I replaced Orbi with Asus Zen ET8s. I was still having problems but not as bad. As soon as I put the Edge+ on WiFi and all of the Minis on Ethernet, the problem went away and I haven't had an issue in a week. Edge doesn't apparently do well on Ethernet. The Orbi router combined with the Edge needing to be on WiFi confounded the problem.

I have had bad experiences using Google WiFi with two Minis and a Bolt. Seems like at least a couple of times a week the Minis suddenly can't "find" the Bolt, even though everything is actively connected. I have to restart the Bolt and then magically the Mini's rediscover the Bolt.

I'm trying to decide if I should try eero, or if this is just a problem with using TiVo on a mesh network...

My cable company was renting TiVo Edge with eero. They dropped eero after a month and went with Plume. The dropped Edge and went with Stream 4k after 6 months. After a year they are still pushing the Plume and Stream 4k.

My advice is to drop the entry level garbage and go with pfsense with ubiquiti access points. I have been running this for many years without issue (all tivo devices connected by ethernet) Also use prosafe switches (gs105, gs108 or gs116) Make sure you go with an intel chip for pfsense and not arm. pfsense has prebuilt options or you can build your own hardware and install their software. pfsense allows for much more advanced features then you would find on a typical home router while still being easy to use. I highly recommend it.

As a follow-up, replacing Google WiFi with eero worked almost flawlessly. Minimal network issues using four eero 6, all in wireless mesh mode (1 Tivo Bolt, 2 OLD Tivo Minis). Can't believe I waited so long to replace...
