Found it.VLC is my preferred viewer on my Win10, Linux, and Android machines. And it's free. I haven't used it with Fire TV, but it's available.
I like SMplayer. In preparation for leaving TiVo I am downloading all the unviewed programs we have saved using kmttg. What would be the best viewer to play back these videos using Fire TV?
EDIT: Looks like Emby is the best viewer, and it allow viewing from outside.
Don't have a Fire TV, but, e.g. on my Android phone, when I'm at home, I just fire up VLC, go to Network, and navigate to the shared folder I want and open the file. How do you stream from computer to Fire TV???
Thanks, I edited my initial question as I found the answer but...Don't have a Fire TV, but, e.g. on my Android phone, when I'm at home, I just fire up VLC, go to Network, and navigate to the shared folder I want and open the file.
I guess I can also use Plex. My server runs a Plex server, and pyTivo. On my TE3 TiVos, I tend transfer programs from pyTivo server, but can use Plex, too. With Win10, Linux, and Android I just access the shared folders on the LAN.
I suppose I could use Plex on Fire TV, as it looks like that is also available, based on Best Media Streaming Devices | Live streaming apps powered by Plex
I don't have any Apple products. On Android, I use ES File Explorer app to access shared directories on my Win10 or Linux boxes, and just copy and paste files or directories over the LAN. This is using my phone's wireless. Alternatively, I can plug a USB cable into my computer and phone and transfer that way. That's probably the default but I usually use wireless. Now I'm trying to figure how to get the TV show transferred from my PC to iPhone. The iPhone is not on my Apple account. Thoughts?
I use Android too. Trying to help an iPhone friend. Apple makes it hard!I don't have any Apple products. Maybe ask in an iPhone thread.
FWIW, my phone has a 128GB microSD card, and I have about 80GB of TV shows/movies, recorded on my TiVo, decrypted/transferred via kmttg to my PC, then transferred to my phone via wireless.
I guess another way to transfer files... pull out the SD card from my phone, plug it into my PC, copy, then put the card back in my phone. Transfer is probably faster, but involves removing my phone cover and case.
