We had some line trouble with our HD service through Comcast... and while the tech was swapping out cable cards one of the pins in the second slot became bent. Now I can only use one tuner to record and I'm a bit unsure of what to do next.

He said that since it's likely he caused the damage Comcast should pay to repair the unit. He said I should call some computer repair shops to have the pin repaired and then I'd call them back and they'd cover the costs of repair. If we couldn't get it repaired he said that Comcast would possible replace the unit. Here's another wrench in the works... I've got a series 3 on a lifetime sub. I'm really concerned about losing that. They could replace the unit but it wouldn't replace the lifetime sub.

It looks like a really simple fix. The pin is just bent slightly to the side. It's just hard to find anything narrow enough to reach down inside the slot to straighten it out. It's like we'd need a long, thin pair of tweezers. Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Perhaps a small (2.0 mm or so) flat-head jeweler's screwdriver? That's what I'd use. If it's just bent a bit to one side, a small press to the other side should straighten it right out. Just be gentle with it, of course...

Well I've managed to get the pin basically straightened with a butter knife. But when I insert the card into the slot it seems to be stuck. I don't see any other pins that were bent and it seems like the pin that was bent is in line with the others now... not really sure where to go from here. I can't really make the pin any straighter. At least not without taking the thing apart.

What would happen if I call Tivo to have them service the thing. Would I lose my lifetime?

If the unit is serviced by an authorized service center, even if it ends up being replaced, the lifetime service can be transferred. If it isn't replaced, just repaired, there's nothing to worry about no matter what.

Just as an update... I called Tivo and explained the situation. They were completely great about the whole thing. Basically it's going to cost me $49 plus shipping and I'll be receiving a new Series 3 in a few days. Everything should be smooth sailing from here on out. Thanks so much for all your input and advice guys!
