Banshee on HBO Max is my favorite show anywhere the past year

this under the radar 8 year old Cinemax original popped up on HBO Max and its a great show !

plot: jewel thief gets out of prison after 15 years and looks for his old girlfriend who should still have the diamonds they stole. Traces her to a small Pennsylvania town called Banshee. First day in town he goes into local pub to have a beer and the brand new sheriff walks in who is ready to take over the reins in Banshee the next day. Two punks come in to rob the place, the sheriff is killed and our guy takes over his identity and becomes "the new sheriff"

each episode has tons of action, defined characters , evil villains (and plenty of them) and several beautiful women, especially Lili Simmons. I'm half way through season 2 of 4 and loving this show

Thanks for the heads up. I've seen this show listed but never had Cinemax so I never watched. I'll give this a look.

I watched Banshee religiously. I could hardly wait for the new episode each week. I just might watch it again.

Strike Back started out great, but to me got kind of stale after a few seasons.

Banshee never got stale.

Not sure I ever got around to finishing Banshee, I know I watched everything up to the last season or so, then never quite got around to finishing it. I did like the show. Need to rewatch it at some point so I can finish it off.

That said, it is very definitely *not* a show for anyone squeamish about violence.

Oh, I don't know...maybe it's the perfect show for anyone squeamish about violence.

I used to be squeamish about needles. I would faint whenever I got a shot or they drew blood. I'd even get light-headed when they did blood drive stories on the news. Then, fifteen years ago I went through six months of chemotherapy, and ever since then needles haven't bothered me a bit.

So maybe watching this show would have the same effect on somebody squeamish about violence!

Banshee was one of my favorites. As Rob says, it never got stale. They managed to keep it fresh every season. Great cast.

I stopped watching Banshee in the second or third season. I don't remember why. I know I liked it. Maybe I'll try again.

Definitely not your run of the mill show about a small town sheriff. Ain't no Barney Fife or Goober in this one.

The Sheriff went on to become Homelander on The Boys and his ex became one of the escaped convicts on The 100.

I watched the first season, and loved it. For whatever reason, I never got around to watching sesaon 2.

I started this last night unaware of this thread. I loved Warrior and saw that its creator is also responsible for this. Watched four episodes in a row. So good. I always wondered where they find the actor who plays Homeland on The Boys, now I know LOL

I finished last night and man what a great series this was! What a shame it went so unknown to most. I personally never had Cinemax. Even when I had the most Premiums subs back-in-the-day.

I would put this series in my top ten easily. Antony Starr should be a bigger...ahem...star! But the rest of the cast, most unknown to me, are also great. Hoon Lee and Tom Pelphrey (nazi deputy) are the only other ones I recognized. Lee from Warrior and Pelphrey from Iron Fist and Ozark.

One thing that struck as to why I think this show is so great is that I really cared about the characters. And the villains, particularly the main one, were huge standouts. Now the show is not perfect. There were some plot holes, clichés...but that's ok...it more than made up for its storyline and never got boring.

One more thing that also struck me...imagine watching this week to week? The anticipation woulda killed me LOL So to sum it up, I (obviously) highly recommend this series. And I defy you to NOT binge it. Also, it is super violent (fight choreography was amazing) and lots of nudity. So it's not for everyone.

I just 'discovered' this show and cannot stop watching. Gotta also say the number of hot women in Banshee simply defies the odds.

Me too. It wasn't going to win any awards but it was just a fun show. My wife and I loved it!
