Hey all,

I'm having a trouble updating my SAppered 240. I currently have software 7.2.2 and everything works fine, TWP, bash, hackman, everything. Both wireless and wired adapters work well.

However, when I did a slice upgrade to 8.3 I lose my backport devices. Though during the slice update it states that the backport drivers were in fact copied over to the new partition.

I realize alot changes from 7.2 to 8.3. Is there any known issue when updating to the most current version from a much later version?

Thanks for any help.

Pull the drive (or use a serial cable) to copy over the backport drivers that are compatible with your kernel. In your case, that would be a 7.2.2-oth.K1 kernel, so you want the ./obj/drivers/2.4.20 drivers, not the ./obj/drivers/2.4.20-8 drivers.

edit: or do what Soapm suggests above.

well I suppose it is indeed worth a shot. I'd rather wait and see if there are known issues so that I dont have any downtime! (I love my tivo best when it works!) But thanks for the advice, that will be a resort.

Any other ideas?

I have a D-Link DWL-120 wireless adapter that isnt working even when I put those drivers in, however, i did get my wired usb100m to work. any idea's on why it wont work? It detects that its a wireless adapter, but when i go to configure it, Tivo gives me the "adapter Not Found" message. I thought this was strange.

On the SApper site, it suggests not using wireless adapters, but the adapter worked on the SAppered Tivo when it had the 7.2.2x software running. Why would it not work now?

Also, do I put the obj/host files into /lib/modules as well?
And must I manually modify the etc/hotplug/usb.map file?

Thanks for the help.

I should note that I viewed the usb.map file and added in the changes that the backport drivers specify, and while i was there i saw that the D-Link DWL-120 Ver. E (my adapter) with a vend/prod id of 2001/3200 is under the vnetusba.o driver.

Which if I am correct never gets modified or updated.

Also, everytime I try and unplug the D-Link DWL-120 Ver. E there is a DIE command sent from the kernel and the Tivo restarts.

I feel like I'm close though... any help is appreciated.

Well I figured out my problem after reading a thread on DDB, you have to use the 7.3 drivers for wireless devices, or monte a stock 8.1 null kernel?

I swaped out the drivers and all is well!

Thanks for the help, this keeps getting better and better!
