I haven't played much with a non-sub'd unit ... so I'm curious about what would happen.

A new THD unit.. CableCard install in about a week .. I will probably sign it up for a MSD and a 3 yr commitment ... but I was wondering ... if I just hook it up .. and before adding it to my account .. will it download the latest software update? What restrictions are there on a "new unit" that hasn't been added to an account yet?

Also .. on a completely different note .. if I commit to 3yrs (6.95) .. and in a year they open up lifetime transfers to this box .. does transferring it let me out of the 3yr commitment? Does anyone have any experience on that with the S2's?

Thanks.

Six days, then I believe the Tivo will stop working...
You'll still be able to view the programs already stored though...

It would be wise to have the service in place, for after the cable cards are paired you'll need to check that all your channels are available... Wouldn't be able to do so without having the service ...

So.. during those 6 days, it will fully work.. including downloading the latest software version?

Yes, except that the advanced boardband features will not be available until there is a subscription on the box.

Assuming they do things the way they've done it in the past, you wouldn't be able to transfer lifetime to that box, but would have to transfer it to a box that doesn't have service on it.

In that case, you could transfer the rest of the sub on the THD to another Tivo box and the transfer the lifetime to the THD.

Yeah, I transfered my sservice plan from the THD to the Serious 3 online without a hitch, and that was all there was to gettin the account in good standing...

But still doesn't show my Tivo's name in the account log on the Tivo, no biggie I guess... Says go to Tivo an name your Tivo..duh?
