One of my pet peeves with Tivo is that if you have any kind of search to autorecord by actor, keyword etc. Tivo will always record shows that you have set as three thumbs down.

It would be nice if Tivo had a setting that would take this into account so that it would not record shows you have already flagged as NO!

This would avoid the problem where, say you had an actor in the search, but Tivo kept recoding the old tv show the actor was on that you have no interest in.

I hope that Tivo adds this simple switch. (e.g. If you have a search, you can turn on NOT recording items that you have thumbed down in the past.)

In 9.1 they introduce Advanced Wishlists where you can exclude terms as well - so you could exclude the title of the show.

Thumbs should never be used for something like SPs or ARWLs. I also advise against using three thumbs down - it can really screw up Suggestions overall since it 'poisons' a lot. You're rating more than the show - you're rating the actors, director, genre, etc. One thumb down is enough to stop it from recording a program as a Suggestion.

It's not a bad thought, but if I hate a certain show but love a certain actor, I might WANT to see that episode as an exception... I'd prefer there to be an option like NOT HOUSE UNLESS SEINFELD or something like that. (Not that Seinfeld is a good actor, but you get the point.)
