Are we close to a MyBook AV DVR Expander upgrade?

I see the current model isn't shipping for 1 to 4 weeks on Amazon...could this mean a larger capacity in the pipe? I still find it unconscionable that they're charging $120 for a 1TB drive...I'm sorely tempted to spend more and buy a copy of Win7, VMware Fusion, and two 1TB drives to do the upgrade right (and spite TiVo/WD in the process).

Just put a 2TB in the tivo.
I agree for $80+/- you can upgrade the internal drive to 2TB and then you can keep the original as a backup for when the 2TB drive dies.

Regarding the current 1TB external drive. It has been out for about 1 year. I am guessing it will not be changed for a long time - they may at some point offer a larger one but who knows when/if that will happen.

Good Luck,
I tried installing a 2 TB Version of MyBook AV DVR Expander and found it wasn't compatible despite the Tivo Certified sticker on the box.
The smart money is on the internal(only) upgrades. Forget about external expander drives! Running two HDD's just doubles the probability of failure and you lose all recordings because each one is split between internal and external drives.

It only doubles the probability of failure if the HD is the dominant cause of
failure on the box. In my (limited) experience, that isn't the case - I had
one TiVo HD die because of a bad power supply, and at least one (possibly
both) of the next two refurb units also had power supply problems. From what I read here I'm by no means the only one to have such issues.

Meanwhile, my other TiVo HD, with an (early-model) 1TB expander continues to work fine (touch wood).

Are you shure? Western Digital does not list 2TB My Book AV DVR EXpander on their site:

When I did a google search for My Book AV 2TB nothing came up under the "Shopping" option.

Thanks,

And I believe that is the consensus on the forum and it's supported by counting posts. Power Supply failure is probably in second place but not close. If there was a batch of power supplies in certain production year(s) that suffered from "capacitor disease", that would change the statistics of course.

Thanks,
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=467441 was my previous posting requesting assistance. Western Digital sent me a replacement My Book AV DVR Expander in the 2 TB size. I sent it back and am still waiting on their 1 TB version.

I don't suppose you opened it up or otherwise found out what the model number of the actual drive inside was?

weaknees still wants $299 for their 1 TB internal drive, and dvrupgrade still wants $279. And it's 6 months after you posted this.

And supplies of the MyBook AV DVR are drying up just as I was about to buy one. As the OP asked 6 months ago: are they going to come out with a new one some time soon?
