My inclination is to use the default unless there turns out to be a reason not to...especially with TV settings it can be confusing, since different manufacturers use different terminologies. So just leave it as it is unless the picture ends up being wrong. Hopefully, you'll never have to worry about it!

Alternately, there are forums out there with people who love to geek out over this kind of stuff (avsforum.com is one); it shouldn't be too hard to find a listing of all the settings for your TV and what the different options really mean. E.g., here's the avsforum.com thread for my TV.

So true. I used a 40W600B for four years. Then I bought the 43X800H, (an Android model). The differences are amazing. Luckily I'm using TiVo off cable, so I can put off learning for a while. I'm waiting for the 4k cables right now since I moved my VOX and I have a Roku Ultra. Since there's not much else to do, I bought a new 4k AVR also.

If you have more than 4 HDMI devices will you use an HDMI switch? Or, sigh, just readjust the antenna (ooops, channeling my youth...) change plug-ins? I much prefer to have all inputs going through our Denon AVR, nothing into the TV directly.

Obviously I want the AVR for sound. So I'll plug my 4k devices in first. That's a Roku Ultra and Mini Vox. Next will be my Roamio that I use all day, then probably my Blu-ray (Sony S6500). I'll use the four on the TV for my TE4 Roamio, AVR, Premiere and have one spare. A Yamaha has four "scene" buttons that power up, select input and DSP. I miss the power button on my TV though.

At one time I had an HDMI switcher and optical switcher. Years ago. BTW, I never use CEC or ARC.

I bought a new TV and the default Aspect ratio was set to wide. I put it at normal. What do you guys suggest? Thanks
On my TVs, that setting decides what to do with 4:3 content. Wide stretches it to fill a 16:9 screen. Normal displays it with pillarboxes and the original AR.

Some TVs have a Zoom setting that will zoom without stretching the image, and fills a 16:9 screen.

Lately my none HDMI channels from Comcast have been letter boxed really bad. Picture is about 1/4th of the screen. Never had this before until two weeks ago. Not sure what is doing it. Tried looking at the ration settings but couldn't find a way to change it.
