I always opt in for this stuff.
And you never really know if it makes any difference. *AND* if you do opt out, then certain features will not work (although I can't recall what they are- I believe it was the swivel search or something like that).It is a hidden option. You have to call or chat with a customer service representative.
I have answered a number of those polls and I find them rather annoying. They seem to be far more interested in me, personally, than they are in my experiences with the Premiere, TiVo, hardware or software issues, future directions of their products, etc. I am not "Advising" them about anything.
