I've replace my TiVoHD w/ an HDHomeRun and Plex. The drive on the Tivo is questionable and causes the unit to freeze needing a reboot. I rebuild the PSU last year so that is solid. I feel bad bring it to the electronics recycling.

Sold listings on ebay seem to show $40-$130 without shipping and a number around $70 (again excluding shipping) so definitely some value for some people.

Yeah i was seeing the same thing, given that mine needs a new drive...probably closer to the $50 range.

You can test the hard drive to verify it's failing assuming you can find a buyer. Do you have the original drive that you could put back in it?

Scott
That drive is long gone, upgraded it many years back. I recently swapped the 2TB with a used 1TB drive and the symptoms are better, but still present occasionally. I don't feel like investing in a new 1TB drive.

If want to replace it with a newer model, you could use it to transfer lifetime during a TiVo Summer Sale (typically starts late July). As long as the HD has "phoned home" within a year prior to the start of the sale, it is eligible.

I was plugging it in every few weeks in order to be qualified for those promoitons, but TiVo's recent OTA boxes were very underwhelming and i bought into expanding my Plex DVR.

If it fixes the freezing issue, then you can sell it without any warnings and perhaps make a little more (versus a larger hard drive and freezing). Depending when you replaced it, it might need to update to a version of software to be compliant with the Rovi guide data. That may have issues with the normal process so if it doesn't happen automatically then it might be easier to just put an updated image on it.

I'd probably do it but you might not feel it's worth the effort that it could take.
