I wouldn't hold out for a transfer, but having that box entitles you to the Multi Service Discount if you should purchase any other Tivos.
Any use for a Series 1 with PL?
I have 2 TIVO boxes with Product Lifetimes on them that I am no longer using.
One is a Series 2, that I can probably sell on EBAY for a little money back.
The other is a Series 1 (an original phillips), that I have been keeping this in the basement thinking someday it'll have some use.
Like maybe a deal to transfer the Lifetime to a new box!
But somehow this day has never come.
Is there really any reason (or use) to keep a Series 1 box?
Will I ever be able to transfer the product lifetime?

Thanks .. I have 5 Tivo's currently, so the multi-discounts are really an issue
I am just trying to see some value in keeping a Series 1?
Maybe someday it will be like a classic vintage cult piece of hardware .. like an old Atari 2600?

The S1 with lifetime is still worth something on eBay. Or you could set it up to record security camera video or some other video input. Or transfer some VHS stuff to the Tivo for wife, kids, ??? If lifetime for that S1 was purchased on or before January 21, 2000 you are eligible for a one-time transfer of that service to another TiVo. If purchased after that date, then not, but you could sell or give it to someone and it could be the anchor for them to receive the Multi-Set Discount as long as they have it call the mothership evey 30 days or so.I have 2 TIVO boxes with Product Lifetimes on them that I am no longer using.
